I didn't have a problem either sleeping on my stomach.

After about 10 days I was able to sleep on my left side for a little while, but I stayed mostly on my back and right side. It's been about 3.5 weeks since the surgery, and now I can sleep in pretty much any position, including flat on my stomach. The only discomfort is if I roll over and end up with my body twisted. That wakes me up enough to reposition, and I go right back to sleep.

Though I probably was not suposed to, I slept on my stomach from day 1 out. I would start out on my back but wake up on my stomach. I had very little port site pain.

I also went to sleep on my back and woke up on my left side (port) first night after surgery. I never had trouble sleeping on that side, but the port area did remain tender for a couple of weeks, and then sporadically for awhile after that.

I had to laugh at myself about sleeping on my side. After I had lost maybe thirty pounds or so, I woke up feeling pain on my side, and I figured I'd lost enough weight that maybe my port was going to start bothering me when I was sleeping on it. After I fully woke up, I realized I was laying on my right side, and what I felt was my rib cage. I guess it'd been awhile since I'd had that sensation..lol

After about a week my body was begging to me lay on my stomach... so I did, and it's been fine since. No problems for me!

I can only sleep on my stomach. After surgery, I called my doctor's office and the nurse told me if I could tolerate it, it was not a problem to sleep that way. She said some people didn't have pain and others did.

I love to sleep on my tummy but it took five long months before I was able to be on my tummy comfortably.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
