I had surgery yesterday and everything went well, I went home the same day. I had some Water, sugar free popsicle and little bit of a Protein Shake yesterday. Today just water so far, I am scared to drink too much how will I know when to stop drinking? Also I have pain in my shoulders and neck very uncomfortable, anyone else experience this? Last question is about my chest, it hurts like someone is pushing down on it, lots of pressure, normal??

Congrats on making it to the banded side! Drinking is good, but just do it in sips, no gulping, no straws. I would not worry about drinking too much. That pain in your shoulders, neck and chest are ALL gas! I know everyone is tell you this but you have got to walk, walk, walk! your body has to absorb all that gas from your surgery. I found gasX helped me alot, take them as often as you need.

Hi! I'm not banded yet and this may be a stupid question but I was wondering...I keep seeing comments about feeling gas in your shoulders. Do you know why you feel it there as opposed to where you would normally feel gas?

Thanks!

Amanda, the gas they are refering to in the shoulders , neck, and her chest are pains caused from left over gas that the doctor uses to inflate her abdomen. It can take a few days to work itself out of your system, but walking seems to be a sure fire way to help it along. Most surgeons try and get as much out as possible before they close up those small incisions.:)

Here's a good article (a little on the technical side though) that describes why some people have shoulder pain after laparscopic surgery.

That was some Kool info Kiz, I should print that out and take it to my last weigh-in tomorrow. Maybe my surgeon would consider those methods to spare my shoulders.

Thanks for the URL to it.:wink2:

I felt the heavy pressure in my chest too! It lasted about 5 days. Doctor said it was the swelling around the band which is higher up than I thought. Hang in there! It's worth it!

Congratulations on your surgery! That pain should get better pretty quickly -- but it took a while for mine to go away completely. Don't worry too much on the drinking front. Just take small sips and you'll be fine!

BTW, Isopure makes a Protein drink that tastes more like Gatoraid. I hated the shakes and that drink really helped me to get through the liquids phase. They sell it at stores like GNC.

Welcome! And, best wishes for your success!

Catherine

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
