I had 7 incisions too... but, he said my liver looked great.

I had a hiatal hernia repaired so I thought that maybe that would be the reason. They are all really tiny and healing well.. so, I am not worried and never questioned the doctor about it.

I had surgery 9/23 and wole up with 6 incisions. My liver was a little enlarged and he wanted to biopsy it....just a routine thing!

I had 6. 5 small, laproscopic type holes and 1 larger one - about 4 inches. My doctor said that I had some "tough" tissue to deal with when he fixed my hernia and so he needed an extra tool and he had to open up one incision a bit more so he could get at things better.

I have 6, one was for a benign tumor to be removed so I am a little unsure what the extra one is for!

Hi! I had seven cuts also. My surgeon explained to me that he had to make two extra cuts because he kept finding severe scar tissue near the liver area. We concluded the scar tissue was from when I had radiation therapy to my liver in 1991. I was glad he didn't give up and eventually made some cuts that he could use for the instruments. Less experienced surgeon would of stopped the lap and gone right to open surgery. So, having two extra cuts to heal is not so bad after all for me!

I also had a much larger cut to the left of the belly button. I am guessing this is where they used the tools to stretch the skin to place the port. I still have a deep achey pain from time to time in this area if I should twist or bend just slightly off center. I am 4 weeks post-op from Aug. 31, 2009.

Looking forward to reading and responding to such great topics on this site. Amy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
