Back at home a little tighter

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill today, and I guess I now know my doc is a little aggressive, I have 3.5ccs in my 10cc band and it went in without a hitch, I didn't have numbing meds but it pinched for a second I was just happy he found it pretty quickly then He had me drink a cup of Water, and I could feel the seperation of my upper and lower stomach I had a pause then I felt it go down.

the doc. told me that most people aren't at the sweet spot till 6 to 8 cc's and he hopes to get me there in the next month.

I am home and now I know why they put you on liquids for a couple of days I feel like I need that. so it back to liquids for two days and then he told me to eat regular food see how I feel and if I am still able to eat more than a cup at a time, then come back for another fill.

Now I just feel a little tight but not too tight and liquids are going down well, I am hoping to see my stalled weight start to move down over the next couple of weeks.

Wow. That's really interesting about feeling the upper / lower stomach separation. I was suppose to have my first fill today but they cancelled it, as I am still losing .2 - .6 lbs a day. But I love reading all the experiences to help prepare for my first fill, whenever that comes. Thanks for sharing. Listening to all your experiences, I'm not dreading it anymore. Glad the pain wasn't bad.

hi! you are doing so much better than I am! Congrats to you! I haven't lost an ounce since the surgery. I am getting a fill today, so hopefully, that will help. I can eat like a lumberjack and have found myself the last few days doing just that. ugh. I told myself I wouldn't revert back to eating too much, but here we go....

I can't say being back on liquids is a walk in the park, I really don't like my protien shakes that much so I have been experimenting with some of my earlier Soups and I do feel fuller sooner just hungry quicker but I heard it changes once I get back on real food oh Friday can't get here quick enough...

Congrats!

I get my first fill tomorrow, I heard from others that he puts in 3cc's usually. I'll let everyone know.

I have been hungry and eating the last week or so.. weight loss has STALLED, but I think I am in good company at this point from what I've read. I guess the good news is I healed well and am at a normal place in the process.

I have had a couple of things feel like they get "stuck" though, but then eventually they go down in a couple of minutes. I need to work on the Water and not drinking before/after meals though.... need to whip myself back into a good routine after this fill tomorrow!!!!

Hello all,

My doc told me I'm on solids now but I don't get my first fill till 6 weeks post-op(10/7/2009).

My calorie in/calorie out says I should be losing,. but I seem to be stuck. :) I liked my weight dropping every couple of days.

Maybe I should go back to the liquid diet or increase my exercise.

Any suggestions ??

I would call them back, my doctor looks at weight loss and the amount of food you can eat at a time, I was up to about 2 cups of food I won't know where I am at till friday with this fill but I am sure I will be back in two weeks to get my next fill, I am hoping that I will only need that one more fill for a while as I read you shouldn't get too many fills.

We were banded on the same day. Go Aug. 5th!

I had my first fill a week ago, and I notice a little difference, but not enough. Im stalled out at 20lbs. since surgery and havent lost ANY in the past week. Its so frustrating! I have an 11 cc band. I got a 4 cc fill. I am trying.. I am. I hear it doesnt start to come off until the the 2nd fill usualy. Heres hoping. I have to wait another month before I get to that though. Hi everyone- I had my first fill two weeks ago, 4 cc's in my 10 cc band. I really still feel no restriction at all. I guess my capacity to eat has diminished somewhat, I can't pack in it like I used to. But I still can eat a good amount (too much). I go back in 2 weeks for another fill. My doctor said usually 7-8 cc's gets you where you want to be. I hope so! I've lost 20 lbs so far but nothing the last few weeks.

I guess my doctor is very conservative since I only got a 1.5cc fill today.

My doc gave me 1cc. One measly little cc. I was sure hoping he would be more aggressive on the first fill. I was extremely disappointed.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
