Recommended Posts

Yay! Love hearing all this good news! I'm having a great time too with my band. I've only had one fill so far, and I'm feeling just a wee bit of restriction, but it's enough to make be very careful. I've lost 45lbs so far and have gone from forcing myself into a tight size 26 jeans to easily sliding into a 22 and looking forward to shopping for some smaller ones soon. People are finally starting to notice, and I'm lovin it!!

Love it!!!

Banded 2/18/09 and had pretty good restriction right from the start. About 2 months ago I gave the last of my fat clothes to goodwill, absolutely nothing from pre-band days fits me anymore. I went from tight XXXL shirts and size 44 pants to a comfy M shirt and loose size 34 pants (about to go down to 32). I am about 1lb for 100lbs down and 2 lbs from my goal weight/goal BMI (184lbs/24.9BMI). I am not stopping at the goal though. I have set my new main goal to 15% Body Fat (Body Fat, not BMI), at my current fat loss/muscle gain I should be there within 1-2 months.

A-WENZ...Great motivational thread. I love hearing about the small and not so small victories everyone is sharing.

I just found an old favorite belt in my closet that I hadn't worn in ages. It matched what I was going to wear beautifully, so knowing that I'd lost a fair amount of weight since I last wore it, I hoped it would finally fit again. Much to my surprise, I had to put in the last hole, except this time, rather than in the last hole to make it bigger, it was the last hole to make it smaller, and at that, it was still loose. Was I ever happily surprised.

Hey Everyone-

I was banded on June 2nd, 2009. Am on my 2nd fill, due for my 3rd on Oct. 7th. I'm currently at 5.5 ccs on an 11 cc Realize band (I'm told my newer one is 11, not 10). I haven't hit my sweet spot yet, but I'm down 36 pounds. That's not much, but when I average it, it's 3 pounds a week since surgery. That's pretty encouraging. Oh and I just gave away my first bag of clothes that are too big and just broke into my first bag of clothes that were previously "too small." I have bags in my garage that average from size 16 to size 8 so it was nice to break into that first bag. :) Good luck everyone!!!

Hi not posted for a few months but decided yo come back in , thats me over 50% off and closer to my goal 50lbs in nearly 6 months who would have thought. Not only that inches , jings where have they gone , nothing gives me more pride than into my workshop looking for my leather punch so I can stick another hole in my belt.

My belt is now becoming a trophy * laughing * , its like a little ticker marking my progress.

I actually look down my chest now and can see my feet .. hehehehe

For those having a tough time , keep at it , I had a very problematic start , just refused to give up , thankfully . my eating habits now kind of coming second nature , if food served to me , is too easy , or not the right type .. guess what I have the power to say no thank you.

Still having issues though the no drinking whilst eating or just after rule ... last 43 years of my life I spent drinking a glass of milk with anything I eat ... 4 pints at least a day , I love the stuff .. but anyway trying the best I can , just still seems strange have food taste in mouth after eating and trying not to consume , other than the odd sip ..

Enjoying trying new foods , thinks I would never have eaten in my life , Cottage cheese with Pinapple and Mango .. up to before the bad I would have laughed at that choice .. now I love it ..

Anyway best wishes to all , keep up the great work , and when you get down , brush yourself down , pick yourself up and hey keep on trying :scared2:

Its only a case of mastering the art of controlling the tool , a thing which I reckon slowly Im mastering and physicologically adjust to . I think for long term , and re adjusting eating habits .. great tool and now a decision I do not regret ..

Nick.

Hi All,

I was banded 6/25/09 and I'm 40lbs down! I have had 2 fills, (3.6 in a 10CC band) as long as I continue to lose my PA is only doing micro fills for now, saving room for when and if I plateau!

I haven't bought any new clothes yet, but I think I will this weekend, I got out of bed this morning and my pj bottoms fell to the floor....I think it's time.

Good luck to everyone!

Hello all! I was banded on 6-8-09, so I'm just a little over 3.5 months out from my surgery. I go for my 3rd fill on 9/25 (tomorrow). I had 2 really great/funny things happen to me today. First, I am an elementary school teacher who has recess duty everyday. As I was walking out to my duty, I put my phone in my pants' pocket. I got about 2 steps out the door and my pants almost feel to my knees. I knew my pants were getting too big, but the weight of the phone was just too much. I almost flashed an entire cafeteria and playground full of little kids! My second piece of exciting news is that I can now comfortably wear a size 22 (down from a tight size 28). I LOVE MY BAND!!! :(

Be careful not to flash the little children:ohmy:. That is why I am CONSTANTLY buying new clothes. I started in a tight 26/28. I have a pair of 28 khakis I taught in before my journey (were tight) and I look like a kid holding up a pair of "grown up" pants when I tried them on the other day. I now wear the LB right fit blue size 1T (started in a 6T). I can also wear a misses size 18, but I have to take the waist in. I wear a 14/16W top. I may not ever really get out of plus tops unless I get a reduction. I can wear a misses XL or XXL but it is tight in the bust. I love my band and the control it has given me over my appetite.

Love this post!

I, too, teach, but I teach college-aged kids. When one of them told me my clothes were too baggy this week, I decided to go buy some new black pants. The old ones were size 22--and too tight before surgery. The ones I bought Thursday were size 16. I haven't worn a size 16 for more than 10 years. The kicker is that I went ahead and bought only one pair because they were comfortable, not snug, so I know I won't be wearing them for long!

Love to hear everyone's NSVs!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
