Does everyone go on a liquid/mushie food diet after a fill

Recommended Posts

Ok.. I just got my 2nd fill today. I felt hardly any restriction after the first fill. I really hope to feel restriction this time around. My doctor said to do liquids for the first 2 days and mushie for 2 days after wards liquids.... I have been out of town and came home today... my daughter had one of those school musicals tonight... after my dh took us out for pizza. I ate the smallest piece on the pan and 1/2 a bread stick,,,,

What I am wondering is will the band get the accurate restriction even though I ate,,, what could the side effects be? Does everyones doctor require the above diet after fills?

I have a 14 cc band and 7 cc filled I believe,,,,

It is crazy how different every doctor is. After 4 weeks post-op my doc allows a fill every week until you reach restriction. Additionally there aren't any food restrictions in place...everything is fair game immediately. He said that he used to do the liquid/mushy requirement after fills but after studying thousands of patients he found absolutely no benefit to it. I have an 11cc band and in three weeks I've had 8 cc's put in. I had my 3rd fill today and I think that I'm finally on to something.

My Surgeon insists on a regular diet after a fill... the morning after sugery (and I was operated on at 8pm!) I was on porridge and for lunch thick veg Soup....

However... no fills for the first 6 weeks, then 3ml at first fill, 3ml at second and then 0.5ml or 1ml til restriction....

I have 6 ml in an 11ml band and I still have little restriction.

I have had 3 fills in my 9cc band. I am up to 6ccs. I have never done liquids or mushies after a fill. I just eat very little and eat "light" feeling foods.

I've had 4 fills and I'm up to 9 cc's in an 11 band (getting close to the sweet spot). I've never been required to have liquids after a fill. They just told me if I have a problem to go to soft foods. I've never had a problem so I just eat my normal meals.

thanks everyone for your responses. I was really nervous about eating the pizza last night, plus I was second guessing my slow success.. I have taken today today slowly. I do think this fill has made a slight difference. Hopefully I can pick up the weight loss pace... I hate being at a plateau.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
