Thought not a good canidate?

Recommended Posts

I meet with my surgeon and nutritionist on thursday( less then 48 hrs). I am really nervous they won't think I am a good canidate because I really didn't lose any of the 20lbs they said I should work on losing ( only about 3 lbs). I was very motivated after the immersion seminar and started the pre-op diet they recommended in a nutrtional folder. I followed it to the "T" for 2 and 1/2weeks at that point i actually lost 7lbs... Then my hubby lost his job and our income dropped dramatically so making ends meet and trying to stay a float took priority and weight loss as well as exercise was on the back burner. I looked on the calender and realized my apt was in less then a week. I stepped on the scale and had gained back 5 of the 7lbs I had originally lost. I started to cry. I am crying now as I type. I don't want the team to think that I haven't committed my self seriously to a change of my lifestyle. But how can they when I haven't lost any of the weight I was supposed too. I don't know what to tell them... I feel like their should be no excuses for me not giving my all no matter what the circumstances and that they will feel the same way and say I am not a good canidate for this surgery. Has anyone out there gone through this before? What was the outcome did you buckle down and lose the weight? Will I be wasting the surgeons time if I keep my apt? Should I keep it?

Wow I am so sorry you are going through a tuff time. I think you should tell them the truth. The fact is if it was so easy for us to lose weight we wouldn't need the surgery. The fact is food is your friend, your comfort and confidant. Perhaps you could talk to a counselor about what your going through. Now here's the other side life with the band is not "the easy way". It is hard work, most of us have fallen off our wagons and had to set them upright again to get them going! But we get back on our program until our next bump and get over that one too. So you hit a bump, be honest with your doctor make a decision about what you want to do and go for it. Find support either here or at a hospital support group and understand this won't be the first or the last time you need it. You are human, this is a great investment in yourself and you are worth it! Good luck in your journey and keep us informed of your progress.

Yes, keep you appointment. You did lose some weight. They are compassionate people or they would not be doing what they do. They will understand.

Keep your appointment. They will understand and all should be alright. I think it is different when you have the band you feel like you have a back up to help you in your weightloss and you will work harder knowing you are not in this all alone but that your band is helping you. Good luck and let us know what they say.

Hi everyone thanx for the support...Yesterday I went to my appointment. The nutritionist was very understanding and gave me helpful tips on how to be mindful of what I am eating. I was weighed (ugh) and I actually lost 7lbs!!! since last I was there. I then met with the surgeon who answered all of my questions and she said that I was looking at a late October early november date. YAY!! she also said to NOT gain one single pound and if I can lose more that would be great.

I am sooo excited now.

Best wishes to everyone

Great News. I wanted to  to after reading your first post.

Might I suggest going to a Lap Band Support Group in your area. You'll meet alot of people with alot of the issues and possibily get some insight on them.

Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
