Yes. Do the liquid diet yourself. If we could just "eat healthy" on our own, we would not be turning to surgery. Do a couple of weeks of shakes and that will certainly take the weight off. I found that having to be on the shakes was actually easier than trying to figure out how to lose weight in the old fashioned way.

best of luck to you.

I also agree, do the shakes and maybe if you feel you need to chew something have grilled chicken and some steamed veggies for dinner.< /p>

I started my pre-op diet about 2 weeks before I was supposed to so I have been on it for 4 weeks. I did have 4 nights where I had to chew something so I had chicken, which is the highest Protein.< /p>

I started at 205 and am now down to 188 and still have 2 days of shakes then 2 days of clears before surgery on Friday.

I know, I have heard it before, 188 and getting banded..... But my insurance is paying, they feel it is necessary.

My favorite shake is the Wroldwide. They are thick and tasty and I like the 35 mg protein ones since I get enough protein with 2 shakes and don't have to really stretch for more fi I am full. You can get them at Trader Joes in chocolate and vanilla, but Vitamen shoppe has banana and strawberry which are the best.

I am so glad I logged in today. I was going to ask this same question. I have 4 lbs to loose prior to meeting with my doctor to schedule the surgery. I will be calling tomorrow to make the appointment and I'm hoping that I will have a few weeks to loose the weight. I know 4 lbs doesn't sound like much but I have an awful time loosing. The reason why I need the surgery. Anyway with the liquid diet how many shakes do you drink? Is it the "full liquid" the nutritionist gives you?

My pre-op diet was "up to 6 Protein Shakes per day" plus alot of Water. I used Atkins Advantage shakes, and spaced them out every 3 hours all day. I lost 11 lbs in the first 8 days. Good luck to you.

I was supposed to drink 5 shakes with 21 gms of Protein they recommended the Optifast but they are more expensive so I got the worldwide at Vitamen shoppe and Trader Joes with 35 mg of protein.

I had one for bfst, some crystal light in between, another shake for lunch, more crystal light, and either a sensible meal or another shake. I had sugar free Jello in the evening while watching TV or on the computer. I could'nt drink 5 shakes a day, the shakes got boring and I just didn't want another in the evening.

I love crystal light but the flavors are too strong so I mix a packet with 32 oz Water and fill my cup from the jug. I don't like plain water so it had enough flavor for me and still gave me the liquids I needed.

I did notice a few times that my urine was darker so I just increased my Fluid intake but I wind up getting up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. I try not to drink anything after 9 pm but as you get older that doesnt' help much. lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
