Just Banded Is something Stuck?

Recommended Posts

I just got banded on 9/9/9 an I am at home. I took a pill yesterday (cut it in half) and now I have this feeling like something is stuck in my chest.

It feels kinda like Water went down the wrong pipe. Its high in my chest just above the the staple line.

Is this were I would feel it if I had something stuck?

Is this normal?

I can still drink Water and broth just fine it stays down. Just have this tight feeling like something is stuck in my chest after I drink anything.

Please Help?

I had my surgery a year ago, but it seems like I can remember a feeling of tightness in my chest occasionally for a day or two after surgery. Let me tell you, stuck hurts. Since you're able to drink your liquids just fine, I think you just have some after surgery swelling which is very normal. If you start to feel pain or have trouble getting fluids down, by all means, call your doctor. To feel reassured call anyway. This board is great for general information, but call your doctor if you feel the least bit unsure of anything.

Really call your surgeon, especially if you took a pill and did NOT feel that pain before but have felt it since.

You may be swollen and hurt yourself a little (like scraped your esophagus) OR you may have a fill in there and need to REALLY watch it.

Call your doc to be sure, before the weekend.

Could just be the gas. I had alot of pain in my chest/shoulder area. And Im a freaker outer, so the pain made me feel like something was wrong which would trigger my chest to tighten which made everything so much worse. ugh !! gotta love it!

Hi MoRan

I had a sensation a few days out from my banding where it felt like I had a 'lump' in my throat; it was extemely annoying and I couldn't stop fixating on it. It came to the point where I rang my surgeon in a hysterical state and insisted that I needed to see him.

His advice was that it is a sensation that some (but not all) people get and that it will generally subside with time; the fact that I was getting liquids down indicated to him that he did not believe there was a physical obtruction and it was potentially caused by some swelling. He asked me if I could be brave and tough it out a little longer to see how it went, I did this and it eventually went away - took about a week.

Hang in there, and if you're really worried, call your surgeon - that's why they're earning the big bucks!

I crushed my pills for about 2 weeks after surgery. But before you do this, check with the pharmacy to see if the pills you take can be crushed. I mixed it with applesauce or sugar free pudding.< /p>

Thank you all for your words of advice. I did call my doctor and they did not think that I had anything stuck because I was able to get Water down. The feeling is starting to go away and the pain around the port is getting better. I get to move to creamy Soups today Yeah! Again thank you all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
