Any November 2009 Bandsters??

Recommended Posts

weirdest thing happened to me. I woke up at 5 am very uncomfortable and then my body kept trying to fall asleep. I went to sleep for 6 more hours woke up at around 11am and I'm in no pain and the swelling around my port is almost completely gone. I can walk normally and I feel like I did the day before surgery. I also started full liquids today!

Thumbs up to Odjii!

Counselor, I'm sorry to hear you're in so much pain :bored: Hopefully it gets better as the day goes on?

I am about to jump out of my skin with excitement. My surgery is on the 25th. Yes the day before thanksgiving. I have limited days to take off at work so I am willing to give up turkey day to give this wonderful birthday present to myself.

My birthday is saturday so I had to start my pre-op diet on Wednesday. So I asked my family to do my party before then. They tricked me and waited till the night before my new diet and suprised me with a feast for a queen for supper and cake and ice cream. I was so thrilled. I told them it was my last supper. Ha at least for awhile.

I am so excited. This pre-op diet is getting hard on day three but day 2 was horrible. I heated some V8 today for lunch and I have learned the warm broth and warm v8 seem to take more of the hungry feeling away than cooler stuff.

I had a v8 and a yogurt with Water and I feel satisfied.

So for those coming up to the pre-op, hang in there you can do it and it will be worth it.

I can not wait to start my whole new life.

Hello all. Well I am 10 days into my liquid diet (4 to go till surgery day) and I feel ROTTEN. Feels like I am getting a head cold, I am super weak and to top it all off having a super bad crampy period right now. Yuck, all I want to do is crawl into bed...I hope I start feeling better the last thing I want is to have my surgery postponed again! I think I feel extra weak due to no food so I ate a bit more today than I have in a while, maybe the extra calories will help!

Soexcited, that might just be it. Less calories, a bad time of month, changing weather... all could add up to a nasty feeling overall. Stick to your diet as best as you can and take a nap if you can fit one in! Or go for a brisk walk. Both will give you energy, and exercise sometimes helps with cramps.

You're welcome! Just think... feel bad for 4 more days, and then get your band and all that hunger will be over. 4 days is definitely worth it :bored:

The pain is a tiny bit better, but still bad. THe gas is just about gone. Only feel it now and again. But the stomach muscle pain is ridiculous. I have Dilautid for pain. I take tylenol in between, but the meds really don't seem to help much. I am sleeping in my bed, but the getting up and down is killer.

Yesterday, I managed to get down 22 oz of Protein Shakes (32 gr protein) and 20 oz of Clear Liquids. It's SUPER hard to get the liquids down. I am working a bit faster today, so hope to get to 32 and 32.

My nose is horribly dry from the oxygen - if you have a humidifier at home, you might want to use it the first day or two.

I feel absolutely no restriction, but my dr said the band wasn't even really touching my stomach yet because my anatomy was pretty small in comparison. I would guess that means I'll get a fairly large fill at my first.

I don't feel any restriction either. My doctor said he should have put some in. Told me to come in at 3 weeks instead 6weeks to get a fill. I'll still be on liquids then. Even though I have no restriction I'm not hungry, so thats good. Is your stomach making weird noises like gurgling. Maybe it's my stomach growling?

So-E, My surgery is the 24th so I am there with you with the pre-op diet, and I have noticed being a bit weaker both in spirit and physically. I couldn't open a jar today, and when my husband said something to me today that I would have normally let him have it for, I just sneered and walked out of the room. Just too much to think about and to much yet to do, then top it off with the darned diet...Well it's only a few more days. We are women hear us roar!!!! Right??

Hang in there girlfriend, I know we are gonna make it!

FYI - Pre Op diet people - the icky-ness you feel a few days into it is often referred to as the "atkins flu". If youve ever done Atkins (or anything high Protein, low carb - hello pre op diet!) its just a phase your body goes through with the dietary changes. luckily it only lasts a day or 2!

I was wondering how many of you wern't required to do a liquid diet pre-surgery. My hospital doesn't require it at all, in fact they specifially told me not to do a liquid diet before hand. Only time I can't eat is after midnight on the date of my surgery. Anyone else have those same instructions?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
