1st fill of 4 CC and kinda scared

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my first fill on 9/12. My surgery was on 7/3, but the Fill Center that I was closest to was not opening until 9/12, so that's why I waited. It was painless for me. I too was asked to lie down and I had my arms crossed behind my neck and I was very comfortable. They asked me to push out my abdomen and found my port right away. Then the doc sort of held the port between his fingers and injected the saline. I was not numbed but it was not needed. He also removed a small amount of air and blood that was in the pouch. He said that is not uncommon after surgery. I received 2cc in my 11cc J&J band. I have a little restriction now. I too stayed in the office to drink Water, which went down fine. I go back in a month to be reassessed and have another fill. This time it will be 0.5cc and 0.25cc thereafter if needed. I'm happy! :mad2:

I had my first fill today; 5ml in my 14ml band. It was performed in the Radiology dept of the hospital as my doc does the first few fill via fluoroscopy - he cleaned the area off, then injected something to numb the area (something similar to novacaine); there was a little discomfort (nothing bad) when he inserted the tube to administer the saline solution.

I drank a contrast solution shortly after, then they removed the tube and I was done. I go back again in 8 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
