Im getting a little freaked out

Recommended Posts

Ive been on my liqued pre op diet for 15 days now my problem is I think allergic to them or Im just run down. My gums keep swelling and my lips are so dry nothing helps them. I never get cold sores unless I have the flu and real run down and guess what I have a couple really bad ones. I told the nurse and she never heard of that before and gave me no other options. It scares me because they want you in really good shape for surgery but Im run down. And yes Ive been drinking 10 cups of Water a day so its not that. I have 6 more days to go untill surgery YIKES

Call and see if you can change shakes. I'm allergic to one of the artificial sweeteners and some things (like sugar free popsicles) make my mouth break out.

Otherwise I'm sure you're fine. I did 5 weeks and 2 surgeries on a diet similar to yours and I was 20 years older! I know we aren't all alike but I know it gets tedious to just drink your meals. You'll get through it, you really will! You should be getting adequate nutrition from the shakes; your body is just pitching a hissy fit because it is used to getting lots and lots and lots of food.

But do tell your doc you may need to switch Protein Drinks because you will be on liquids for a while post op (very important, that, as you know!) And your PCP can give you something to take for the cold sores.

Having said all that you know yourself best...if you REALLY thing you are sick, not just body rebelling, call the nutritionist and tell him/her your symptoms.

Hang in there.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
