Just starting the process!

Recommended Posts

Hi there! My name is Janelle, and I am a newbie! I have been interested in the lap-band for years but my insurance would not cover it until I was on their insurance for two years. I now qualify for it, so I am just getting started in the process. I have pretty much everything scheduled as far as the work-up between now and the end of October. My final appointment with the surgeon is October 29th, which also happens to be my birthday! LOL. I am probably looking at a surgery date in early to mid November... It seems so far away right now, but I know it will go by in the blink of an eye! I have been spending a lot of time looking at these posts so I know what to expect and also for some extra inspiration, so I finally decided to register myself so I could interact! Just wanted to introduce myself! Thank you!

Hit Janelle!

I was self pay so I did not have to wait. But For me I would have waited two years. I think it is so worth it. It would be a good birthday present if you get a surgery date to go home with on your birthday. Good Luck!!

Just knowing that you qualify and that you are going to be scheduled is great!

My insurance wouldn't cover me unless I waited too...didn't want to wait so self pay!!

Happy early birthday and this will make you have many more of them to look forward too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
