ok. I was banded on 9-4. Talk about pain..still...and now I am wondering something. After all the reading I have done, I am reading that people suffer from the "liquid in-liquid out" syndrom. I have plenty of liquids going in, but NOTHING is coming out.

I urinate just fine, 3-4 times a day, but that is all.

I started back on the Protein shakes yesterday, so maybe that will move things along, but should I be concerned at this point and start taking something?

If you are taking a prescription pain medication that is opioid based (ie vicodin, hydrocodone, dilaudid) and you are taking it/have taken it more than a time or two, odds are it is constipating you. (they are notorious for that)

Call your surgeon and ask if she/he wants you to take a stool softener or just wait and see (or take something else?) Don't let it go to long. By day 5 or so something really should be moving.

Thanks for the reply. I took the demerol (SP?) the first two night, but not since. Will try something warm to drink tonight. I have chewable benefiber as well.

Because you are so soon post op, please don't add ANYTHING into the mix (ie your chewable benefiber) without your surgeon's ok. You are healing, and the band is healing into place. Your doc will have something he wants you to use. I know that seems odd but these first few weeks are critical to a successful and problem free experience, ok?

Call them today and ask when they want you to worry! Seriously you should be going by now. They may green light your chewable Fiber, but let the doc tell you how to proceed this time, ok?

Completely normal. I didn't go for a week and I was so gaseous from the surgery it was horrible. Try Crystal lite live active it has 3 g of Fiber or all bran fiber tea drink with 10g fiber this will help, and it gives your Water some flavor.

I was also banded 9/4, and my doc told me Milk of Magnesia.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
