The feeling I get is like an intense pressure in the area where the beginning of my stomach begins. It is very uncomfortable. Once you feel it once you will know. The way I describe it to people is if you have ever swallowed soda and it goes down wrong and you feel a pain in your chest and back. Hope that helps.

There is very intense pressure in the center of your chest. I have the most problems when I eat meats or toast. Just remember to chew chew chew and when you think you will be good chew once more. Over chewing is the answer to everything. Also I have never just had the stuck food pass through..PBing has always been the outcome. Its not fun but it relieves the pressure immediatly. Good Luck

That's kind of like asking, how will I know if I pinch my finger in the door. Trust me, you'll know. It hurts! Sometimes it hurts badly, almost like I'd think a heart attack would. Sometimes it's just discomfort. Don't worry, you'll know it if it happens to you. If you're in doubt, you probably weren't!

I agree with the people who say it is really uncomfortable -- I'm 11 months post-op and haven't had a painful stuck experience. What generally happens is that I feel it, and may "slime" for a bit (you can't swallow your spit when you are stuck, so it bubbles up and you will have to spit it out) before it passes through. Once in a while, I have to PB. I always know minutes ahead of time when that is going to happen and have never had an embarrassing PB situation in public, thank goodness!

Hi Guys! What is Pbing? Ouch getting food stuck sounds horrible! But so does overchewing food. . . I laugh because if I chew food so much that it liquifies, I throw up. . .can you imagin after I'm banded? I'll either have too much pain all the time, or throw up all the time. . . hahaha. . . what a scene that brings to mind! Hello Yop Yogurt drinks!

PB= productive burping. The food that is stuck comes back up. I'm a year out and have never had one, but I have however been stuck a few times. Luckily when I'm stuck it seems to go down on its own if I alternate touching the floor with reaching the sky. And papaya enzymes have helped me out a few times too.

Erykah; you really do have to chew food well or it does get stuck, unless you don't fill the band. For most of us, an unfilled band means a pricey piece of non-functioning plastic is just sitting there. All joking aside, that's a major consideration you'll need to address before banding. If your stomach is really sensitive (and you've joked twice now about vomiting) the band may not be for you. I don't mean to be a downer! But, while most of us have times where we do "PB", it isn't something to be considered a lifestyle. It is hard on you and the band, and not something most docs will allow to continue. In fact at my check ups they ALWAYS ask if I've vomited even once, and want to know the particulars, symptoms after, etc. So an optimistic attitude is grand and I heartily endorse it, but do realize that you will have to chew well or have little restriction.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
