Hello everyone,

I just found this site tonight. I am due for the procedure in October. I am very nervous about it. I hope this works and I don't disappoint myself, my husband, or anyone else. Well, just wanted to say hi and I look forward to getting to know you all.smile.gif

That is so great you have a date. How long after your first consultation did it take for you to get a surgery date?

Hi Liz,

Really weird the way mine happened. I went to the surgeon first and he told me to get the records from my primary that I have been on a 6 month weight management program. So I have been doing that and now I am seeing the surgeon and primary for the 6th month. Then it gets sent in to bcbs ppo for approval.

Hopefully, all systems go Houston, and take off will be scheduled for October some time.

I am new here also. My surgery is scheduled for October 5. I go for my pre-op appts. on Wednesday evening. Part of me is really nervous about the after-care ..... Protein Shakes, mushy blended food and no diet coke...it all sounds so damn appealing, lol. But, I think it is like having a baby.... you are so miserable at the end that you would go through anything just to not be pregnant. Well, I am ready to do this, however ugly it is at first, because I knowin time it will be better, and I will feel better after I have lost some weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
