I didn't go out the very next day, but I did the day after. I was banded in Monterrey, Mexico, and arranged a car and driver/tour guide to take my mother and myself around town. I didn't overdo it, but I was able to walk around a bit and enjoy myself. Plus, it is good for gas pain to walk around, and being occupied helped keep my mind off of the pain in my shoulder! (I felt pretty good though -- the surgery wasn't that bad.)

I'm another who started doing "normal" things right away. I am a firm believer in "act normal and you'll feel normal" :frown: I had a "light" couple of days but started my last year of nursing school the Tues after my Friday surgery. Before then, though, DH and I went shopping, I went out in the neighborhood etc.

No driving until you're cleared, of course!

I was never told I couldn't drive for a specific amount of time following surgery. I wouldn't drive the same day as surgery of coarse, but the next day I'm sure is fine.

I was up and walking around within an hour of surgery and kept walking until the gas was gone. Back to work a couple of days later.

you know, Im not banded yet, but this was going to be one of my first questions. How long until "normal" returns?I suppose that it would depend on the individual....and i guess the doctor.I have a pretty physical job, and Ill have to plan my surgery so that I can take enough time off to recover.Angie

I just went out for the first time yesterday (4 days post op) and just walking around Walmart and bestbuy, I had to take my pain meds when I got home cause I felt like I overdid it. Its mostly the area where my port is....soooo sore.

I had my appendix out a few years ago, and they had me up and walking around within a few hours. I think that is standard protocol for a lot of surgeries, to get people moving.Angie

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
