New to LapBandTalk...recurring slips anyone?

Hello,

I'm new to this site, however a long time poster on Obesity Help. I was referred here by a friend.

I'm nearly two years post op and have lost 165 pounds. I've had a port fix, gallbladder surgery, lastly, a slip repair in April. And face yet another slip. My original surgeon said that my slip was caused by my weight loss and the fat padding shrinking. My new surgeon was able to "fix" the slip. Five months later I'm faced with yet another slip that my surgeon describes as "dramaticlly different". We are going to discuss my options on Wednesday when I have my next barium swallow after two weeks of liquids.

At any rate, I was wondering if any others have had recurring slips. My insurance will not recover replacement and this has me stressing out a bit.

Any experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Kim

I have been banded yet but I just wanted to day hello! I ahve read your journey over on OH and what an inspiration you are! Insurance has my paperwork now and im hoping for an approval but with Cigna you never know. Anyway I hope it all works out for you. Do you think they can use the same band again and just tighten it some more and stitch her in place real good?

Welcome Kim!

I am a frequent visitor to your website and to OH, although I've never posted there. I just wanted to welcome you to LBT. I wish I had some words of advice for your situation. I know that Tricare no longer covers banding, but is it possible for your physician to repair the slip or reband you using a surgical code and diagnosis that would be covered? I'm sure you've already looked into this. Just wanted to let you know that you have really inspired me in my journey, and there is no doubt that you have inspired many others.

welcome to LBT Kim. We haven't had too many cases such as yours. Sorry you are having such troubles.

If your band was stiched into place, which I believe is the usual way, how would losing weight affect this? Anchoring is anchoring... This sounds odd to me.

Congrats on the loss, btw!

I was just banded three weeks ago. I don't have any advice because I am so new. But I wanted to let you know that I really care about what you are going through and I am sorry that you have to face this. What a remarkable weight loss you have gone through. I really admire you.

Thinking of you.

I knew the port was stitched in place, but didn't realize the band itself was? Learn something new everyday heh.

Thank you! I appreciate it.

My long sorted story is that I've already had one slip repair surgery where they unstitched the band, moved it up, pulled the stomach down and restitched. I don't know what my surgeon is going to suggest now. I shall see on Wednesday, just trying to find ANYONE with recurrent slips.

I hope that you are approved soon! Best of luck and thank you for the warm welcome.

Kim

I'm having difficulties responding to the response to my original post! I feel like an idiot!

From what I understand, I have the larger 10 diameter band, which holds 4ccs. This was oringally placed around the fat padding around my stomach, both of which have shrunk dramatically with my 165 pound loss. This is what enabled the lower portion of my stomach to come up through the top part of the band to the upper portion. Does this make sense?

I don't know what has caused THIS slip. sigh

Thank you. I sure was hoping to find someone here that has had experience with TWO darn slips!!! I'm not sure my surgeon has dealt with anyone else that has had two slips either! I see him on Wednesday when I have my barium, in hopes that THIS slip has "repaired" itself by falling back into place.

I got a response from Kim when I signed her guest book on her website.

"All has turned out well. The stomach has come back through the band and I was able to get .6cc fill. Slow and conservative. I’m THRILLED."

Sounds like she won't need another surgery, after all.

How are you Kim? Hope all is still going well.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
