I am so ready to get this surgery! I am looking at Jan or Feb but I am scared of it not working!!! I need to lose around 200 pounds I have heard all kinds of things about the first couple of weeks after surgery from my doc to stories on the internet and was wondering if you can tell how your experience went. I am also scared of how my skin will look and was wondering about that also.

Wish I could help you with answering some of your questions. If you browse this site you can find answers to many of your questions. That seems to help me.

I like you will hopefully be getting the procedure done in the new year. If I lose my patience with our health care system I will likely go out of country. Good Luck with the procedure!

Everyone's diet will differ, it all depends on what your Doctor thinks is right for you. What your doctor tells you overrides everything you read online or on a forum. You will be on a liquid diet for a few days to a month after surgery (once again depending on your doctors recommendations) I was only on a clear liquid diet for about a week, and by the time I hit puree foods my body was just starting to feel hungry....prior to that liquids did fill me up and kept my satisfied.

Now as far as your skin, it all depends on age, how long the weight has been on, how much you exercise, the natural elasticity in your skin....but it is easier find excess skin in a pair of pants then 200lbs of fat!

Good luck!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
