Well Im on an my 21 day preop diet its 6 carnation shakes a day.Im on my 6th day and havent cheated once. My doc wants me to lose 20 lbs. My ? is if I dont cheat and lose that much weight and a few days before surgery have one last meal.(not anything and everything I want but like a filet mignon or some crab and thats it) will that mess up my liver and screw up everything?I have been WANTING meat soooo bad. I wont do it if there is any chance of it screwing up anything.

Actually, I think this is a good question for the nurse or doc. I know with cholesterol tests it definitely plays havoc. Why not have the "last supper" a week before surgery?

Filet mignon and crab are band friendly foods anyway. They are high Protein and low in carbs. You will be able to eat them once your stomach heals. I would just stick it out and wait. I know it seems hard now, but it will be worth it in the end.

I was on a high Protein liver shrinking diet 2 weeks prior to surgery and told by my surgeon to go out the night before and enjoy a last supper. I was permitted anything I wanted including a couple of margaritas. I was concerned about doing this since I was told I had to do the liver shrinking diet and my surgeon assured me that it wouldn't hurt.

Every surgeon does seem to have different guidelines so you really should check with your surgeon before eating anything that isn't on the diet.

Best of luck to you,

Donna

I am pretty sure the docs have heard it all. I dont think they go into this business unless they have some sort of understanding of our mental processes as well. I know every time I imagine going through surgery, I get embarrassed about someone seeing my body, but then I remind myself that my doctor only sees people like me.

A 21 day preop diet isn't common so I can only assume you have a fatty liver or are at a greater risk for one.

May I say (and this is the voice of bitter experience) either ask your surgeon or DO NOT DO IT.

The impression is once banded you'll never eat again and that is NOT TRUE. I can eat any food now. You want meat? You'll be able to have it once you're through your post op phase. I eat a steak (or at least part of one) once a week and don't like crab much but have had lobster. DO ask your doc; he may give you the go ahead. But if you don't want to ask, just hang in there. It is not worth it, coming to in recovery and not getting the band. That steak or crab will taste even better 6 weeks from banding when you enjoy it with pride and the band in place!

I dont know if I have a fatty liver. I weigh alot so the doc wants me on this diet so I can lose 20 lbs. I havent cheated and I will call the doc if and when I lose the 20 lbs and tell him I havent cheated and Ive lost the weight so can I have some steak. if I havent lost the weight I wont even bother calling him or having any food.< /p>

I am on day 6 of a 2 week pre-op diet and I've lost 7.2lb in 5 days. I think the 20lb is very do-able and possibly more!

Good luck with your surgery - hope it goes well for you!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
