Okay I'm wandering if anyone has went through the trouble I have in trying to get my insurance company to approve for me to see a lap band surgeon. I have been trying to get this done since Oct. 08. Went to a weight management program for 8 months per their request. Finished that now they denied me. I appealed it. They sent back saying that I needed to go see a Phych. did that I went on my own to do a sleep amnea test..I have sleep apnea. I did a medical clearance from my primary doctor. Now I have to send that in again to the insurance to see if they approve me to go see the surgeon. I took it upon myself to make me an appointment for the seminar which is scheduled for September 9th. Im getting very anxious and want this done. Does anyone know since doing all this stuff that the insurance company will approve me to see the surgeon and wants I see the surgeon what more do I need to do. Thanks so much for your help.

I would call the insurance company and try to get someone to tell you what the exact requirements are. All insurance companies require something different and they aren't always forthcoming with the guidelines. I couldn't get anyone to tell me at my insurance company to tell me our guidelines. I found someone on this forum with the exact same insurance and she has helped me a lot!!! Just remember where there is a will there is a way! Best of luck to you I hope it works out!!

I agree with Nicole...call your insurance company and find out what ALL of their requirements are and then don't send them anything else until you have EVERYTHING they told you they need. Sending it willy-nilly doesn't accomplish anything except put you on a roller coaster ride.

Go ahead and go to the seminar .... that's an informational thing. For most people, the seminar is the first thing they do so you're ahead of yourself on some stuff. The surgeon's office likely has experience with your insurance carier, will assemble everything you need to make the claim and submit it for you. Let them help you with this whole process so you don't spin your wheels unnecessarily.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
