What do you feel when you are full?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am going to start solid food phase, I am scared. I don;t want to choke or vomit.

What do you feel when you are full? What is the feeling when food gets stucked and how do you solve the problem, does drinking Water help when something is stuck? Thanks

It's hard to describe a full or satisfied feeling. You just don't have the desire to eat anymore and if you do you're miserable. My best suggestion to you is to chew, chew and chew some more in order to prevent a PB (productive burp). Drinking ANYTHING during a stuck episode only makes the misery worse. When you get stuck, you pray for 1 of 2 things to occur, 1) It passes through the band 2) It comes up. You are miserable while stuck and all I do is walk and wait. DO NOT DRINK!!!Go ahead and eat something solid but take small bites and chew the heck out of it.

For me it was very different post op vs "good" restriction. Post op (once healed) because I had no fill, and then very little (conservative doc) I ate less than before, but still a lot. Sometimes I got uncomfortable, others not so much.

At the "sweet spot" it's VERY subtle, for me. It's like I'm hungry and then between bites I'm NOT any more. If I push it from there I get miserable. So it's like a hungry/not hungry switch.

As to being stuck (which again doesn't usually happen until you get pretty good restriction. It CAN happen before then but usually doesn't) some people DO drink a little warm beverage and say it helps them bring the bolus of food back up. I either "cough" and bring it up, or use Papaya Enzyme (love that stuff) and it breaks down and goes on through. Chewing VERY well, smallish bites, eating slowly all help prevent it.

The best description I can give is that it feels like if you try to swallow another bite - it might not go down so that you better stop or else deal with the consequences. A couple of times I pushed it and was miserable afterwards.

When I feel full.. i feel that there is something stuck in my throat. Like its swollen. I was scared and told my Dr. this. He said this is my body telling me, i'm full.. Others fill it in the middle of their chest. for me its the throat. I think this is weird.. HMMM m anyone??

I either feel it in my Throat or Chest .... Its weird! My chest feels full, but my stomach doesnt. So sometimes I've pushed it too far. Not good :-( Use your own judgement. When you've had enough, you'll know :-)

Good luck!

It's really a learning process and some things are very individual. This is what I've learned about how my body reacts:

Full : I couldn't really care if I take another bite. Not "full" like I used to feel, but content. I've really had to learn to watch for this. I've noticed some signs that I'm "full" which include a sigh, the need to belch, or a little "gurgle" in my throat. For me those are all signs I'm done.

One Too Many Bites: Chest pain that radiates to my left shoulder. This happens if I take that extra bite or two - definitely a sign that I overfilled my pouch.

Stuck: Middle of the chest pain that is more intense and produces mucus very quickly. I chew a few papaya enzyme like Restless said and walk around like crazy. Sometimes spitting up what mucus I have helps and I can keep it from going any further. It's difficult for me to cough my food up - never been a good urper.

It's been 7 weeks since I've been banded and I've gotten stuck 2 times. Once it happens, remember what you did to make it happen so you can prevent it in the future. My problem is I get side tracked while eating by talking to my friends and not paying attention to the size of the bite I took or not chewing enough.

Now I chew until that food is almost dissolved. DO NOT drink anything. Your brain will tell you to grab some Water but it just makes it worse. Takes some deep breaths and if I stand up and walk around that helps too.

Be careful of vomiting, that could cause your band to slip.

It's a learning curve for awhile. I love the posts on this site. I've learned so much.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
