Wondering about others Hormonal Changes Post surgery

Recommended Posts

I was bannded June 30th and diagnosed with PCOS sometime before my sugery. My first period in July came timely 15th just like in June. I was pleased. July 24th was my birthday and the the MIGRAINS began. 20 days of migrains. Now today August 14th I started (timely yes) and the cramps are killer. My stomache muscels could take out a small country. I have felt like I had PMS for 20 days now I am haveing a super period. I can see how gaining weight increased testostrone so is weight loss decreasing testo? Is the Estrogon increasing? Will things work themselves out. And to top it off I just want to eat so bad. I had my first fill this past Tues and I could just eat untill the food stacks up my throat and nothing else would fit in my mouth. I have had cravings during the ever long PMS that I have had this month, but I managed to control myself. Today just pain (CRAMPS) and cravings. Any thoughts or experiances?

Since you have PCOS you're safest to run this by your gynecologist. There is a link between fat and estrogen, but I can't find a good source so can't really tell you for sure what it is. However losing weight DOES impact estrogen levels and while you don't have a ticker, if you've lost 30-40 pounds or so (guessing) odds are that's the culprit, estrogen. Call your doc on Monday and get it checked out

WOW, I am sorry to hear about your problem, but that happened to me. I had been banded about 3 months, had lost 40lbs and began having severe Migraines at the end of October. I also began having heavier cramps. I DID NOT make the connection. I went to my gynecologist and my uterus was abnormally large. I am 41 and already had two kids, so I chose the option of a hysterectomy. The migraines continued through November and stopped after having my hysterectomy in December. I didn't realize the migraines were hormonal until they stopped after my surgery. Please try to see your doctor to see if you can find a solution. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for your comments I appretiate your info so much. I did talk to my Dr. last week and he said give it a month. My gyno is out of the clinic as much as she is in. The thing is the I had the same ob/gyn sence my first preg over 13 yrs ago and he left involenterily 6 monthes ago so I am hoping that my new doc will be better enough to be my doc untill I figure out what to do. I am just going to have faith that things will work out for the time being. Or untill I can see my doc. I have lost 60lbs sence Feb, 09

Fat cells harbor estrogen, and when you lose a fair amount of weight in a short period of time, all that added estrogen is dumped into an already changing body/hormonal system.

It will throw you into a tizzy of PMS in massive proportions! I had not had a Migraine in years since my hysterectomy, as mine had always been hormonally induced Migraines. Within a very short time following surgery I got a migraine! I didn't have them for long periods like you, but I did get them again. It was not long until my body adjusted, and the weight loss sadly slowed to a more normal rate, and my body could cope better.

Emotions were all over the place, I had sleep issues, and hot flashes, it was a real picnic for awhile, and all things that had I not been warned would have really worked on my sanity!

It does get better!!!

Just hang on for the ride!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
