a week post-op and miserable

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on July 29 and am still having trouble even getting Water down. I get full very quickly after a few sips and get a feeling that something is in my throat. It really makes me sick. Then it takes an hour or so to feel ok again. anybody else experience anything like this post surgery? Any suggestions?

Call your surgeon on monday. You must be able to get at least most of the 64oz min fluids in each day or you will quickly become dehydrated and end up in the er.

Odds are your surgeon put some fill in your band during surgery and you, like many many others, are not reacting well to that. Many find it's better to HEAL first and then start restricting.

I don't know though if that's the case with you; either way by now you should be able to drink liquids fine. Call your surgeon Monday and get checked out.

Did you not have an appt at 1 week post op? When is your first post op appt?

I agree that you should call the surgeon on Monday, and tell them exactly what is going on. Sorry to hear that you are feeling bad.

I did have a post-op visit last Thursday and my dr was concerned! I am going back in on Monday. She did mention taking Fluid out of the band so I guess that is what we'll have to do. Thanks for you comments.

I hope that you are feeling better. I was baned on July 30 and have no real troubles. I am hungry alot, and don't always get full. I don't have a visit until 9/8. Good luck to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
