4 days post-op

Recommended Posts

I'm starting a new thread since I am now 4 days post-op. The surgery itself was a breeze. (especially when I compare it to my hysterectomy). I walked 2 hours after they got me up to my room. I had no nausea issues. My hubby and I got home on Wednesday afternoon and I slept most of the rest of the day off and on. Thursday I felt pretty good. Was still on the prescription pain meds. Yesterday (Friday) I went totally off of the prescription meds and started taking liquid Tylenol. Today I have had NO pain meds. I am hungry all the time though. My stomach is growling loudly! And I'm a little nervous about the up coming week. My DH leaves tomorrow morning for a business trip to New Jersey and won't be back until next Saturday! Don't know how I am going to do it without him! Everybody else post-op let us know how you are doing!

I know it's hard (or, I should say, know it will be when I get there) but you CAN do this... hang in there, take it day by day, hour by hour. Try to distract yourself as best you can, remember to keep your fluids up as that will help you... and if it REALLY is getting too hard, is there someone from the surgeon's office that you can call for support or guidance?

Good news......thanks to my husband's incredibly understanding boss, his business trip is cancelled. He will be staying close by this week. Yeah!

That's great that his trip was canceled!! I am a stay at home mom too and I will be home alone with them one week after the surgery. I'm a little nervous about that, so I guess we will see how it goes. Let me know how you do being alone with your kiddos!

What a guy! And what a great boss! My hubby has to work the next day, so my daughter (a nurse) will be babysitting me. Hubby feels so much better about having to work now. He's only 5 mins away, but he did not want me being alone.

Thanks for the update. I'll keep peeking in to see how you are doing.

Today I am 6 days post-op and DUH this whole experience has been much harder than I anticipated. Even though I heard over and over that "it's not going to be easy" and "don't be surprised if you go thru a bit of depression"....yeah right! I thought NOT ME! But I was wrong. The past 2 days have been particularily hard on me, physically and emotionally. I guess physically because I'm NOT 20 anymore and I forget it takes longer for me to heal! Emotionally for several reasons. One being that I keep thinking "Did I make a mistake doing this surgery?", "Am I ever going to feel back to normal", "What if I fail", etc.

I am back to work today (office job) and that truly has helped. I still just feel a little BLAH!

I continue to be discouraged because I can't get my daily fluids in and I HATE the Protein shake. I have yet to get the 32 oz daily recommended amount in. While I am complaining, I hate the children's chewable Vitamin (I gagged on it this AM)!

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Sarah

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
