I've been lurking around here for a few weeks now. Finally decided to join. I'm 28, married for 3 years with no kids. We've been trying for 2 years with nothing to show for it yet. I've been slowly gaining since high school. My first seminar is on Monday and I'm completely nervous and excited about starting this process.

Welcome and good luck!

Just fyi...many surgeons prefer you don't get pregnant for a while (like a year, but it varies) after banding, for your safety and that of the baby. But also losing weight helps many many get pregnant, so that's the total upside!

If you decide you want the surgery, since you want to get pregnant (I assume?) ask your surgeon what his "wait" limit is! (something to check into at the seminar!)

Hope you enjoy your seminar! Mine was a gas! (not the bad kind LOL)

The "wait" period is definately on my list of questions to bring with me to the info session. Slowly this list of questions is growing. Strange how the longer it gets the more nervous I seem to get. However most of my family and friends that I have told about my plan is very supportive. Just a few aren't sure about it but aren't voicing anything to me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
