Ghetto

Recommended Posts

Since the previous thread was closed, but still VISIBLE...I feel strongly enough about this issue to post my rebuttal.

Defending your right to say ghetto is like defending the right to say "nigger" or "trailer trash." It's a derogatory term that hinges on race and social status, implying that people that were raised in a certain part of town end up a certain way.

Perhaps "Rude", "Crass", or even "Vulgar" might have been a better choice of words that didn't uncover a superiority attitude. C'mon..."ghetto"?

A ghetto is a place, not a person.

This is probably a valid point, but what does it have to do with post-op Q&A? This belongs somewhere else.

It was a reply to a post in a thread.. "5th day out and yes I ate chicken." The moderator closed it. Keep up!! Just kidding. I should've explained that.

some would even have their feeling hurt being called a fat ass.....not me, cause i know no matter how much i lose- i got a cabbose.

words are words in my opinion - for someone i don't know to use them on me has little to no value.

i'll catch up w/the thread when it's moved to the rants/rave section:)

Thank you for posting this..

I use curse words to get my point across while some people feel as though their rude behavior is "okay" because they do not use profane language. The attitudes of some of the people on here is very harsh. We all have questions and I believe that if you want to answer those questions it should be done without attacking people and their character. I shouldnt be judged in the way I defend myself and nor should anyone else. I did not start my post with calling people "fat asses" and that is not what anyone should remeber most about my thread. Everyone that saw a problem with my response to these people that think they know it all, I cant offer you anything and definetly not an apology. My responses were not meant for you or anyone else that read that post. They were response to those who felt the need to attack my character.

Huh?

You’re serious?

So, let me see if I get this straight: The moderator closes a thread (which is done here rarely) but YOU think that what YOU have to say about a particular word is important enough to, in essence, OVERRIDE what the Moderator has done? So you start a NEW thread in the WRONG place just so you can voice your own opinion about the use of a word?

Sorry, but THAT smacks of superiority in a much larger way than anything Beth had to say.

And besides; Beth was being very polite, comparatively. I’m not sure “ghetto” would have been my choice of words. I don’t think I would have been nearly as nice.

And for your information, a person can most certainly be “ghetto”…..if that’s who they CHOOSE to become. And that does indeed appear to be a choice the OP had made.

Yes, I felt that what I had to say was worth saying. And I posted it not because I felt I was superior, but because I'm standing AGAINST the racism and superiority that WORD implies, although it had the last word in that thread.

I doubt anyone would've called a White person Ghetto. It's a RACIST term. I wouldn't have had anything to say against a curse word, because it's a general derogate, not one aimed at social status and race.

To be clear, I wasn't defending pinkpassion, even though I neither believe that she was in the wrong. My thread is simply about the word "ghetto." I actually didn't even mention Beth, but you did.

Headhunter, I've seen your "hunting" ways, and I know you'll beat this horse way past its death. Know now that I won't continue to beat it with you.

You think its Racist?

What it “is” is a perfect example of someone taking a NON-RACIAL issue and turning it into an issue of RACISM…..which can only be done, actually, by a RACIST. (you, by the way.)

I’m not going to get into this any further. I have very strong feelings about this subject and about people like you, but I don’t often involve myself in Non-WLS issues here. And I’m not going to start now. But you have essentially called Beth a racist. And that is quite reprehensible.

As far as you observing my “hunting” ways, you may have observed, but you have clearly not UNDERSTOOD. On occasion it is necessary to beat things a bit to make people “get it”….. which you clearly do not. But beating something “beyond its death”? Hardly. I usually don’t say ENOUGH.

Ok. Done here.

OK, the OP had her say and so did everyone else. Can we end this and get back to weight loss support?

Because I keep being brought into this by somebody who can't let it die and, yes, chose to override the mods (very bad indeed), I think it's only fair that I should be able to tell what was in my own mind when I said it rather than having somebody who doesn't know me do it.

I used the term because of her belligerent attitude, her persona, her "character," and the way she handles people. Immature doesn't quite cut it. It's that "ghetto" attitude, the whole package. I have no idea whatsoever where she was born, where she lives, her social status, or much of anything about her at all. Until I clicked on her profile, I couldn't even tell for sure she was black. However, I don't care -- I would have still used the term. People who act ghetto act in a particular way, just like certain dance moves define Hip Hop while others define the Tango.

Besides, since when do blacks have a corner market on living in the ghetto? It's more about a place, and when used as I did, a mentality and behavior, than it is about a certain skin color.

I for one am sick to death of EVERY FREAKIN' THING being turned into some form of racial division. However, I don't care enough about it to change my ways. I believe what I believe, and I will say what I choose to say. I do not EVER kowtow to the select few who constantly choose to make racial divisions at all times and wail about racism. I don't go around calling people "niggers," but I absolutely refuse to always guard every single word I say, worrying that I will offend somebody. Frankly, I don't care.

And if you get so worked up over a word that YOU chose to define the way you do, then life must be very hard for you.

Now, move along already and get over yourself. Life is too short to get your panties in a wad over such a word.

The behavior I have experienced on this website in the past week is truly sickening. I personally have been attacked and called names as if I were in a grade school playground. This site is about supporting one another and if the forum moderators are unable to control the behavior of grown adults on this site then those so called grown adults should be banned from this site. I don't care who you are if you can't behave and play nice you should not be allowed to play at all.

i dont' think the OP's thread was meant to be for support - which is why it belongs in R&R.

HEAD HUNTER - Beating things in does not make someone get it - it's not your job, it's not effective and it's just plain rude. You have not ascended to a higher plain than the rest of us.

If you have something to say - say it. If someone else does not agree - then let it be.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
