what's the one thing?

Recommended Posts

This thread has made me cry! It is so nice to have a place to come to where other people know exactly what it's like to be heavy... I told my mom tonight that if my insurance approves me, I am having the surgery. She was less than supportive. And thinking back, she has been my whole life. She doesn't understand what it's like to be more than 100 pounds overweight and not able to lose weight and keep it off. I just feel really lucky that I found these message boards!

The one thing that I am looking forward to being able to do is wearing "normal" clothes and feeling good about it. I wear baggy clothes that cover up my body now and I would just like to throw on a pair of shorts, tank top and some flip flops and know I look hot! I can't do that now.

Since I just got banded the 21st, this is a ways off, but I'm so looking forward to the day where I won't have to tailor my environment to fit my body, but can instead go anywhere I want. As it is now, I limit myself from doing things I'd love to do because of the anxiety I have about not fitting in...and by this I mean:

~I ALWAYS offer to drive when going anywhere with friends because I know I'll have a seat in the car I fit into, with a seatbelt that isn't too small

~I only go to certain restaurants because I know that I can fit into the booths/the chairs won't break

~I always sit in the aisle seat at the movie theater (when I bother to go) because I have that extra space to spill over into

~I don't fly because the seats are small and it's embarrassing as hell to ask for the seatbelt extender while everyone stares at you

~Forget about amusement park rides (which I LOVE) Can't remember the last time I even went to the fair was

...and sadly, the list goes on. I can't wait for the day when I will feel confident accepting any invitation to anywhere without having to first preplan or "scope out" the location. What a sense of freedom! Thank you LapBand!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
