Things appear to be moving pretty quickly since the seminar last night. I have already set up the consulation with the surgeon for next tuesday and have the Psych consult scheduled for the next Tuesday. I feel much better speaking to them today regarding the insurance. 41 bmi with 2 co-morbidities Anthem of California. Should be pretty easy according to them. Most people that have had WLS in my company were approved in about 3 days. Then it is to the nutritionist and schedule it out. I am very determined to do this and have researched it for months. I wonder how many that attend actually get it done. Some asked about paying a little each month like $50 which was met with this is about 15,000 so I don't think we can do that? One said if she didn't like the way the port felt when being touched by her husband could she get it taken out. Just some very odd questions. Anyway very excited though I am sure that even if I am in the approval stage in a matter of weeks I would guess it would still be several months? before the would do it. all of the research I have been able to do has been very helpful.

People are nervous about this undertaking and some really don't need much to make them run. The question about the port .... let me just say that I've had more people ask to feel that! I mean, it's worse than being pregnant. I tell them they can't really feel it, just a little hard scar tissue.

Self-pay can finance the surgery BUT the longest you can stretch out the payments is 7 years. If you finance the whole amount, that's well more than $200 a month (I financed $10,000 and it's $187 a month). I suppose a home equity line of credit might work but I don't like the idea of encumbering my house for anything. You're lucky your insurance covers it! Mine has a written exclusion for any weight loss surgery or treatment so I knew from the get-go it was out of my pocket.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
