WTF?!?! I Stopped Losing Wt after 25 LBS post op???

Recommended Posts

I was banded Oct 09 - lost 15 lbs pre-op and another 25 lbs thru Marcc and now - NO WEIGHT LOSS in 4 months. I get fills every 4 weeks, and i thought this past fill is the right amount, but still NO WEIGHT LOSS. Dr. office says be patient, but i'm worried. i work out, my cal intake is 1100-1500 and still nothing. the only think I'm losing is my hair. any thoughts peeps? This is becoming very discouraging.

How much are you eating in the way of white carbs?

How many hours of hard cardio are you doing daily?

absolutely nothing white - only carbs are limited to 1-2 servings and in those it's whole grains. i'm eating 60-80 grams a Protein daily, both in shakes and chicken. cardio is 30-40 minutes of elliptical machines or spinning.

i even did a week of liquids only to try and jump-start and no luck

it's boggling my mind that i've hit the wall, not sure this band can get much tighter, and even so, i should have been losing something. i was losing 1-2 lbs a week for the first 4 months, then it just stopped - not gaining/not losing just limbo

Are you estimating your caloric intake or tracking it on something such as:

Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

When you track calories are you tracking absolutely everything that goes in your mouth including Water? Even spices, cinnamon is very high in carbs... as an example. Condiments, the works?

How many hours of hard cardio weekly are you doing?

Are you exercising?

i'm working out hard cardio 2-3 hours a week, plus loads of walking (i live in NYC). i've lost more weight on WW and in less time. i'm definitely eating less, light or FF whole foods, nothing processed. i did less work and monitoring in my first 4 months, and lost more weight than i am now, so i'm just confused as to what's up

If you are working out too much you may need to eat a little more. Why not bump up your cals 100-200 a day for a week and see? AND I'm sure you know...change what you eat. Our bodies get into a rut. Mix up the menu, up the cals, see is you can shake it.

RestlessMonkey is correct. If we are not taking in enough calories, our bodies tend to think it's starving and tries to store as many calories/fat as possible. It's a survival mechanism that goes back to our ancestors nomadic and feast/famine days.

Does your surgeons office offer nutrition classes? Mine offers them, one a week, with a registered dietitian, for free. If not, you may way to seek out nutritionist and/or registered dietitian on your own.

The more we work out, the more calories we burn. Our bodies need a certain amount to function. If you're burning off too many calories and your body has less calories than it needs, it's going to hold onto every single calorie, for survival sake.

As RestlessMonkey said, try adding some calories. I know it seems counter intuitive, but you may actually NEED more calories in your everyday diet.

Please note when I CAp someting, I'm not yelling, rather, I'm emphaisizing.

Good luck

I had the same experience as far as losing more weight much faster on weight watchers. (Obviously didnt KEEP it off that way). I told the nutritionist that because I wasnt losing and she said go back to the WW plan. And that has worked better for me. I am doing the old plan (not the points)

Have you measured yourself? Are you losing inches? My doctor told me you go through stages where you lose weight and then you go through stages where you shrink. You could be shrinking. Maybe you are building muscle.

Only other piece of advice I can offer you is to change up your diet. Our bodies are crazy sometimes. I know mine I can eat good all week and not lose a lb but the minute I eat something bad for me the next day I lose 2 lbs.

Do you keep a food log? Sounds like more carbs than Protein. Also, my hair was falling out because of not enough protein. The South Beach Diet does wonders! I also make sure I get Protein Shakes in as meals at least once or twice daily. I also started taking Vitamins, fish oil. This may help. It sounds like your body is use to the same old, same old every day. Change your pattern and adjust the foods your eating.

dlo1, I was banded October 08 and I am 55 years old. I must confess, my weight hasn't been coming off, as a matter of fact I put on 10 lbs. But, I know the information I gave you does work. I need only to follow my own advice. Sounds like we should both work together on this. I could really use a buddy!

how much weight do you have to lose. If you have a lower BMI I have heard that people get platued like your discribing and that people with higher BMIs lose more consistantly (that is until they become lower BMI's lol) Keep your head up and keep truckin! Youll get threw this platue and Boom! Youll be losing again!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
