I was done on 2nd. I stayed in hosp 2 days as I had to drive myself home. I think I was pretty lucky as I could lie on either side 1st night (with a bit of discomfort). I used liquid analgesia for the 1st 3 nights & mornings at home.Probably didn't need it but I dont like pain & my biggest incision would really sting for a while when I 1st got up in the morning. No gas pain really, tiny bit of L) shoulder tip pain on occasion for 2 days. I have a longish lump going from largest insision across to next incision that was tender for 8 days. It's still there but not as big. Also had an uncomfortable feeling under the tip of lower L) rib which no position could relieve. But it went on day 9 too.

Now I feel great tho hungry. I was on clear Fluid for 1 day now on low cal, higher Protein fluids for 3 weeks, then sloppy, pureed normal food for 2 weeks then normal for 3 weeks then 1st fill. I cant wait til then. I'll have put on all the weight I've lost once I get onto pureed & normal food. Argh!

GUM CHEWERS!!! Be careful..PLEASE! My doc told us NO gum anymore...ever. Because (unless it's SUPER SMALL) it will get stuck...as in requiring all liquids to be removed from your band so it would pass and if that doesn't work, surgery...

Ok my story! :)

I am 9 days out now and i feel such a HUGE difference!

I had a lot of trouble moving and getting comfortable for the first 3 days home...didn't sleep for more than 2-3 hours at a time (:))...but by day 5 and 6 I literally felt better overnight! I have been walking anywhere that has a cart (wegmans grocery store, Walmart, target) every day just to get out...i had to buy new clothes ALREADY!!! :)

I finally can get at least 32oz of Water in...that I also noticed changed very quickly...over the past 3 days actually. And most of the time i'm NOT hungry...but once a day my tummy growls and i'm HUNGRY..i see food and do this:tt1: LOL

I'm supposed to be on Clear Liquids until next wednesday (7/22) when I have my post op with him..then move to pureed food. I CAN"T WAIT!!!! Hummus, here I come! :tongue_smilie:I have gotten on the scale every morning just to see..and i literally LAUGH each time..for the first few days I was down 2-3 each morning...now like clockwork i'm down another pound every single morning. It's almost like it's not happening because i've struggled for SO long to see these numbers...and now they just keep going lower and lower..i LOVE it.

As far as my incisions...i'm all glued..dont' know if anyone else on here is. A lot of it is coming off now and it freaked me out at first..but it's normal. I can bend and twist now (thank god...i can shave again! LOL) with no pain...still having occasional gas pain in the shoulder which hurts...but that's it. It's MUCH better today actually...

I hope everyone is doing well! I'm excited to hear about everyone's progress...goodluck to those of you who are about to be banded! You might have a "why did i do this" moment in days 1-4...but it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it :)

I was banded on 7/14/09 and I keep burping like crazy. I need to get some 100% juice are there any out there that work well? I just had some Jello and was a little nauseated but it went away. How much liquids should we be getting per day?

they say 64oz of Water, but you will NOT get that in yet...since you're only 2 days out, just SIP every so often...i didn't worry about how much fluids i was getting in until about 5 days out...you feel better almost overnight by day 5 or 6..i didn't believe it, but it's so true!

If you were nauseated, you could have eaten too much and/or too fast. Did you eat the whole 3 oz?

I am a week out today! I am feeling a little better each day. Hey, yesterday was a milestone... I could put on my own underwear without my husband helping me! YAY! LOL

I digress, I am still VERY swollen. My surgeon said it is just my body type to hang on to swollen tissue and it will pass. The incisions look fine, she said. My port incision has a lot of bruising. I still feel gassy and burpy. I assume this will end at some point!? But, everything is better everyday. My consolation is that I have a whole nother 4 weeks off. My doctor released me back to work with the restriction of not being able to lift 10 lbs. My employer will not allow that. I have to be released 'with no restrictions'. So I will 'suffer' at home with my sick pay and short term disability for a total of 5 weeks. :cursing:

I started food on Monday (4 days post op) That was scary but it is going very well. My doctor's program apparantly does things very differently from a lot of programs out there. I actually got a lecture at my appointment yesterday for having a Protein shake. She wants me to eat real food that I have to chew. Here is what I am allowed to have:

chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, cheese, yogurt, Beans (not baked beans) Basically can't have four legged Proteins (beef, pork, lamb). I can have all vegetables as long as they are cooked except potatoes, corn and peas. No raw vegetables, no salad (for a month). I can have any fruits I want except dried. They just cautioned about the skin being a bit tough right now to digest. I eat the tiniest bit and then I am full. I think mostly because I am just incredibly swollen. The scale moves a bit every day, so I am happy.

My next mountain is to get all the Water in. That is really hard!

Hi Everyone. This is Michelle. The one who started this thread...lol Well, today is post-op day 9 and let me tell you, it is a turning point. I felt so discouraged after surgery becasue everyone kept talking about how great they felt and I felt like total crap! I was swollen, gassy and sore. I could not sleep comfortably, I could sit for long periods of time comfortable, heck I could not even drink Water comfortably! I sat on my couch on both days 3, 5 and 7 (odd days are not my days.lol) and cried, wondering what in the world had I done to myself! Today is great! The swelling has gone down, so the pain is barly noticable. I have not had anything for pain in 3 days! I can drink when I am thirsty with out having to sip real slow. things are going down alot easier since the swelling has subsided. I have eaten some clam chowder Soup (minus the clams), cream of chicken soup, and even some grits. When you get to this stage things look alot better. Hang in there. i know that u are tired of hearing that (atleast I was), but really just hang in there. And if you have any questions, or want to talk, just drop me a message. Funny story here...I felt so good and "normal" yesterday that I thought something was wrong and called my Dr. He assured me that everything was fine and that I felt so good because the swelling from my surgery was going down. I really thought something was wrong because I felt so much better. lol So, just keep hanging in....

LOL I feel AWESOME...i want to EAT but my doc says no until he sees me this wednesday...so liquids until then...(but i did sneak one babyspoon full of cottage cheese...HEAVEN)

GOODLUCK EVERYONE!

Hi, I'm Missy

I was banded on July 10. I feel remarkably better than I did. I had a little extra pain because of a hiatal hernia that was repaired during surgery. The one big thing with me is that I still can't sleep in my bed. The recliner is driving me nuts! It just feels like the port is pulling out and is uncomfortable when I lay in the bed. Hopefully I can sleep in the bed soon. Is anyone else having problems getting their Protein in? Today I am trying something new. I am using 3 oz. cups to manage my Protein Drinks. I'm trying for 3 oz. every half hour. I am on soft foods so don't really get hungry unless I wait too long to eat. Any suggestions on the protein? The worst part ---the gas pains-- seems to finally be over--thank god! Hope everyone else is doing good.

Hey there fellow banders, when does the burping stop? I am burping alot even when I change positions or move to get up and walk. I am still on liquids and can feel it going down, will this be the same when it comes to eating soft foods? I too have been sleeping on pillows at my head board because I can not lie flat or on my side as the incisions feel like they are strecthing it is still very hard to move around. How long does it take to start exercising or power walking again? Before the surgery I was walking 3 miles about 3 times per week.

Lisa, Im totally with you on the burps and Im on liquids too. I burp like a sailor about 20 min after I finish my liquid and it gurggles down from my pouch into my big stomich. Then a few min later.....**RALPH** I cant controll it. It actually scared me at first that kind of noise coming out of me. Ive never burped like that in my life, now it happens at least three times a day. Im afraid elegant dinners will be out of the question! :wink2:

I'm about 2 1/2 weeks out and the burping has gotten better. I still burp and some of them are doozys but I really feel better afterwards so I would rather have the burps than the gas pains. I've read some of the posts from people banded over a year and they say they still have the burps, but not as bad and they can deal with it.

Lashayeb - the port pain lasted a lot longer than the other incisions and it is still tender, but at about day 9 or 10 the incredible burning I would get when I laid flat and moved stopped and I haven't had that since except if I really twist and do something weird. I thing that is fading too. What still bothers me is my skin around my port incision is very sensitive and not in a really good way. I don't like having it touched...it doesn't hurt exactly it's just annoying.

Hang in there ladies (I'm assuming you are all ladies on this thread), it does get better. I believe it's attitude and your tolerance for pain. You all made the huge decision to do this and what you are going through is just a small step on the way to being much better.

Keep posting and we'll see if we all can help each other.

Eva

Day 4 has been the hardest for me so far. I'm have some pain and its hard to even drink today. I'm going to get up and go walking I'm sure that will help. I have a visit with my Dr. on the 22nd and then I'll be on the full liquid diet. I'm actually excited about pudding. ha! This too shall pass!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
