Please help - don't know what is going on!

Recommended Posts

I had posted this in post operation question but didnt get a response, so I will retry my luck.

I had been feeling like I had a sour stomach for a few days but didn't think much of it. Then Monday night I ate a piece of cheese and it got stuck. Bad Stuck. I PB'ed for about 30 minutes. Longer than I ever have before. Than I threw up very bad. Now I am majorly burning in my esophagus, and it burns expecially when I drink Water. And I hurt in my port area. Now I am just noticing that I don't have any restriction. Very STrange. I had to go to my family doctor because my surgeon is 3 hours away. Due to a few issues with insurance and medical staff, the soonest I can get into do a barium swallow is Monday. But I am racking my brain trying to figure out what is wrong. Anyone experience anything like this or have any thoughts?:tongue2:

I don't think it's unusual to have burning in your esophagus after a stuck, pbing and throwing up episode. Everything has been irritated. Just take it easy with mushies and liquids for a few days. The lack of restriction could indicate a slip. But the upper GI will be able to tell you what is going on.

Since you've already called the doc! (yay you!) :tongue2:

Yes get Mylanta or some tums. If you truly VOMITED (including stomach acid, which most PB's don't) you may have really irritated yourself and that's causing the burning. You may have some reflux or heartburn going on. Don't just suffer; mylanta or tums won't hurt you and should ease it some.

And as you know, liquids only for a couple days until it calms down...but do stay hydrated. Have some Protein shakes if you can bear them.

Good luck! Probably your "innards" are just upset and it won't be anything major, but you've totally done right by calling the doc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
