Burning feeling especially when I drink something

Recommended Posts

I had my Lapband surgery in November 08 and couldn't be happier. I have lost 52 pounds to date. The past week I have been feeling like I have bit of a sour stomach. Kept wondering what it could be. And then last night I ate something and I PB'ed bad. It went on for 30 minutes. And then I actually threw up very bad. I hurt all last night. There is pressure on my chest, burning in my sternum and soreness where my port is. Today I feel the same, soreness by the port, and burning in my sternum area, especially when I drink something. I called the Dr and go see him this afternoon. Just wondering if anyone else experience this. I wonder what it could be?

I am having that burning feeling as I type. It's been a long day. As soon as I take one drink or bite of food I feel it.

How did you appt go? did you get any information? I'm curious to know if it's serious!

Well come to find out my band had slipped from all the throwing up I had did. The burning feeling ended up being some gastritis more than likely caused by the band. It makes you have acid reflux symptoms, chest pains and you throw up. Doctor put me on some ACiphex and Gaviscon. It has helped some. Definitely talk to your Doctor about the burning feeling just to be safe, it could be a sign of something serious.

What does the doc do when the band slips? I am just 3 weeks post surgery and am concerned about that...not any specific reason I'm concerned, it is just one of the things that has been on my mind a lot.

Usually surgery is needed to reposition the band. However I have heard that it could slip back into place after a complete unfill and some time on a liquid diet only. However I don't know if that completely fixes the problem because isn't the bad sutured onto the stomach? Not sure though.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
