Is anyone else working on their six month pre op diet?

Recommended Posts

With my insurance I have to lose 10% of my body weight and keep it off for a six month period. I didn't realize that I could use my feb doctors visit as the starting point and got really depressed and gained 10 pounds in march so technically I have to lose 40lbs to be able to submit my papers by july 3rd.. or I can wait to the end of August to submit my papers and just lose ten more it just seems SO LONG!!

If anyone else is in the same boat, wanna be buddies until we get there?? I'm on here everyday so I will be around!

I'm doing a 3 month multi disciplinary program. It seems like it's just dragging on. I know it's because I've already made the decision and feel like the years of obesity should be enough but you must jump through hoops. Mine will be done on July 22nd and then we submit the paperwork so I'm hoping for an August surgery. I just keep telling myself hopefully in 5 or 6 weeks I'll have a date.

I too am on a six month plan and hoping to get the band early December! I do not have a percentage of weight to lose before my insurance will pay for my surgery but I do have to follow the plan for 6 straight months. My husband is also getting the band... his insurance allows him to do a 3 month plan! Lucky bum get's his first!

Anyway, I am suppose to be following a diet such as weight watchers or South Beach but I just can't seem to get motivated! I know it's horrible, I need to get started or they may just say I am not motivated enough for the surgery :rolleyes2:

Good luck with your 10%

Hello all, I just completed my 6 month diet on June 22nd, and I will tell you it was very hard, but I kept looking at the goal. Every month I looked forward to seeing the dieticen because I wanted to see how well I did, and knew I was one step closer to at least having the chance to get the lap band ( pending approval ) I wish you luck, and hope you get approved. I am scheduled for surgery on July 9th.

Thanks for the encouragement... I am sure we can all definitely use it!

One thing they told us to do is to just make small changes every month... work up to how life is going to be after the surgery :tongue2:

Good luck to you too!

That is so true, it was what my doctor kept telling me :tongue2:

or as they call it Behavior Modifications :cursing: Every little bit will help, It was really amazing to me to see the things I did on a daily basis that contributed to me being heavy.

The six months will fly by and you will be banded before you know it.

Yay! I'm so glad that I have others to whine too LOL... I went to weigh in today for my four month check up and she said that I stayed the same!!! WHAT THE?!?! Seriously?? I wanted to sit on her 5'4" 110 pound body. I think it's because AF is back with a vengence since I had my baby seven months ago. The bad thing is that I will be premenstrual the last day of my weigh in so I will be all bloated like today. When I weighed at home I was up 6.5lbs so I know its not just their scale! Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think diuretics work?

Would you guys be interested in starting our own group? I wonder if they already have one for people trying to do the pre pre op diet

Hang in there about the weight loss... like you said... time of the month... who loses weight during that time! I went yesterday... lost 2.5 lbs but i was really surprised about that. The first month I was really just not motivated. I don't know why... I am very excited about the surgery! I have been getting my butt in gear this month so far though!

Starting our own group is a great idea... but you are right, I don't know if there is one already or not. I will look into it!

Hope all is well for everyone!

I have to lose 10% and keep it off for 12 months :tongue2:

This is more difficult than I realized. I managed to lose 32 pounds (embarassingly, that is only slightly more than 10%) over a period of six months and now have some anxiety about gaining some of it back. I am going to try to lose another 5 pounds at least, to have some space for back sliding.

I am pretty sure I will have to do a six month diet and I am more upset with the wait then having to lose weight. Good luck guys!

I am also in the beginning stages of my 6 month supervised diet. I am tentatively(sp?) scheduled for 12/15. I am right at 40bmi and was told not to lose too much weight because my insurance might not approve me. Told to just try to change some bad habits. I have another appt on 7/9, and will have more of the other visits (psych, etc.) scheduled then. Can't wait!!

Bre,

Congrats on making the decision to get banded. I wish I had a tentative date! I just had my second visit last week. I just met with the dietitian. We went over the next 2 classes of nutrition... don't know if other's have to take these classes or not? Anyway, I too am now just waiting for all my various tests to happen. I go for my sleep study in two weeks! I am interested in what they have to say about my sleep patterns and such!

I go back to the docs in early August... I meet to get all the results of the tests I have taken this month! Hope all goes well!

Hope everyone's weekend was good?! I started Weight Watchers this morning... wish me luck on losing a few lbs. before surgery!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
