Hi, This site is a great source for information... but I was curious if anyone read any books on the lapband surgery and or WLS in general and if they had any suggestions. I dont usually get much personal computer time at home or at work, so a book would also help me when I cant get online.

Thanks

The Success Habits of Weight-Loss Surgery Patients by Colleen M. Cook isn't specifically about lapband, but still very helpful in realizing what changes you'll need to make in your life after wls. Cook had bypass surgery, but still all of her "success habits" are applicable to lapband. Her 6 Habits are: personal accountability, Portion Control, nutrition, Fluid intake, regular exercise, Vitamins and supplements. She says that these principles "are the results of years of research of long-term wls patients." You can buy it on Amazon.< /p>

I just downloaded a sample of "Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know Before and After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully" to my Kindle. To see if I want to actually buy/download the whole thing. I probably will, lol.

Amazon.com: Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know Before and After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully: Robert Sewell M.D., Linda Rohrbough: Books

The reviews have given it 5 Stars.

I combed through them on Amazon and I love it because of the customer ratings. I read through and found a couple I felt were what I was looking for! Sounds like you've already been given that tip; good luck!

In fact one of the two I bought was the one you downloaded! LOL

I agree with Holli on Amazon.com: Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band: Everything You Need to Know Before and After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully: Robert Sewell M.D., Linda Rohrbough: Books

I bought 3 books before I had my surgery, and this was by far the best one. I read it several times, and it really answered a lot of my questions. Plus, the book has short essays by people with different perspectives -- patients, doctors, psychologists, so it was really interesting to learn about the band from those different points of view.

The other books I bought were Amazon.com: LAP-BAND Companion: Mark J. Watson, MD, Daniel B. Jones, Brooks Hart, C.M.I.: Books and Amazon.com: Fighting Weight: How I Achieved Healthy Weight Loss with "Banding," a New Procedure That Eliminates Hunger--Forever: Khaliah Ali, George Fielding, Christine Ren, Lawrence Lindner: Books.

The Lap Band Companion was pretty good too -- and it's different enough from the first one I mentioned that I was glad to have both. Fighting Weight didn't really do it for me though, but mainly because I wasn't that interested in Khalia Ali. The part written by the doctors was good though.

I agree also on 'Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band' by Robert W. Sewell being the best book I've read so far. It is very informative, well written and pertinent before and after surgery. I still re-read parts of it here and there, and the patient's stories fit in very well.

The Lap Band Companion was also good, as has been mentioned.

the Emotional First + Aid Kit was ok, but not great.

Exodus from Obesity wasn't that great (imo) either. It was more geared toward bypass (and the author's travels all over the world).

I'm always looking for a new one, you never can know enough. I do wish there were more cookbooks though!

I have 'Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo-Saray. I am still on liquids so haven't been able to try anything yet, but the recipes look good. It was well-reviewed on Amazon.com, unlike some of the others. The recipes in this book are low fat, high Protein, some reviews of other books said they didn't have a lot of high protein recipes. I check back every so often though. I'm hoping some others here have found some more good cookbooks. :tongue2:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
