Hi:

I've always been kind of a lightweight when it comes to drinking. Before being banded I would have 3 drinks and I was all done even though I weighed well over 300 lbs. I've only had one drink since my band. Had a mudslide with my daughter when she turned 21. Mudslide tasted yummy but was too thick for me and my band. Ended up not staying down. I think some of the people at my support group say that they drink wine often and don't have issues with it. The men at support group said it's hard to drink beer because of the carbonation.

I usually stick to diet cokes when I go out and I stir the bubbles out of them.

Have fun, and always remember to have a designated driver.

I love my band and my flat tummy!

Sue

I've gone out several times since my band and haven't had any problems so far. But just like I did before I got banded I never drink on an empty stomach! I've always been a rum and diet coke drinker and have found I still can. Between the rum and the ice the carbonation goes down a bit. But if you do decide to go out Start slow your tolerance may not be what it was preband. Some people don't drink at all but I've always liked to go out and dance and have a few drinks from time to time. ( ok sometimes more than a few) if you do decide to go out be safe and have a great time. My birthday is next weekend and I'm planning on going out to Celebrate.< /p>

You can drink with a band, sure. Just be aware that besides the hundreds of empty calories you're ingesting, you may also feel the effects faster because you're not eating as much the rest of the time.

Also, a good reason to avoid drinking is that it leads to overeating (speaking from experience, here). So go ahead and drink if you want, but realize it may sabotage your weight loss program for several days afterwards.

I drink with my band and it does slow the weight loss because it is empty calories and also dehydrates you and you don't make the best eating choices while buzzed.

Cold drinks some to bother me more then warmer i.e. red wine does. I just try to slow it down a bit now then I did before.

Party on!

One reason i got the band was to be able to have a drink. I fimd i can't drink as much as before because i can't eat as much.but that's not a bad thing.

I've become a cheap date i usually eat a small bit wait 20 minutes then i have a drink that i sip for an hour and for me for every drink i have i have a glass of Water.

but that's just me

You know I was on this diet a couple of years back and the Dr. Only alowed me to drink Whiskey....go figure....

He said it was the one with the least Cals.

(I am not a whiskey and Club soda kinda gal..):)

I've gone out once since the band and had 3 drinks. My only problem was deciding what to drink. I couldn't have deit coke because of the carbs and I didn't want to have all the calories of most other mixers. I wound up having vodka and cranberries despite the cals, but I would love some suggestions on less calroie dense, band friendly options.

bacardi and diet coke have never given me a problem. The rum and the ice get the carbonation to a tolerable level. And diet coke has 0 calories or carbs. There's around 70 calories an ounce in both vodka and rum. I've never been much of a beer drinker but I had a bud light lime the other day. It tasted pretty good and surprisingly went down easily. But I've heard many bandsters say they don't tolerate beer at all. I also make sure I have some chewable anti gas in my purse when I go out. I've never had a problem yet but it's good to be prepared just in case. I don't go out a whole lot so I don't wanna risk having a miserable time cuz something I drank made me all gassy and bloated.

I'm with you girl! I am one week post op and can't wait to get some sort of a social life back lol...Obviously not going too crazy bc I did this for a reason I want to lose weight but I def. want to be able to have a couple of drinks every once in a while so I'm interested to see how people who are used to their band deal with this...

I'm not a heavy drinker but I do enjoy having a drink now and again. Beer takes forever for me to drink and by the time I get it halfway down it's gone. I just don't bother too much because it's not worth gaining weight over.

I love tequila, cannot do wine or mixed drinks, I must say you have to start slow, and see how you feel

I will end up having a shot, then I have a 16oz glass of Water

then another shot ect.. that has worked for me, I always try to

eat before I drink, You are full so you do not have the temptation to snack and you will be not feel tipsy to soon.

I have drank lots of different alcholic drinks since having the band put in. Phyically the alcohol will have not effect on your band. My tolerance is a lot lower now so be careful not to drink too much.. I personally think the reason they say dont drink it because the high calorie content. For example a drink that I love is the simple vodka/cranberry. Your looking at nearly 200 calories for just one drink!. When your consuming only 800-1000 calories per day your looking at around 20-25% of your daily calories in just one drink! But who can have just one. Hey if you going out dancing every once in while, go ahead and have some fun. Just dont make it a weekly thing because that will for sure slow your weight loss down. P.S. make sure you hit the Water bottle!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
