Not losing very depressed

Recommended Posts

Hi....I was banded on 12/05/08 and I've only lost about 20 pounds. I'm very depressed about this I seriously hardly eat anything and I exercise at least 4 days a week (which consists of a 2 mile jog). I'm going to be completely honest I hardly ever eat Breakfast and occasionaly have a glass of wine......okay those are my vices. Is that enough to be hindering my weight loss. I will do anything to get it right. So I need advice and some encouragement. Thanks.

Ok first off stop beating yourself up about not losing more weight you've lost 20 pounds, second are you writing down everything your eating? third are you getting in at least 64 oz of Water and 65-85 grams of protien??? I have lost about 103 pounds in about 14 months I too get down and depressed when I see other people like my friend who's lost 135 in 9 months. Everyone is different and loses at a different rate. How many fills have you had? I would start with making sure you don't need a fill, then I would either do liquids for 2 days or the 5 day pouch test to jump start weight loss again, then I would put myself on a 1000-1200 calorie diet and write down everything I put in my mouth whether it is a piece of candy or gum to what you drink. sometimes I don't realize how much I actually eat until I started writing it down. when I say that my meals consisted of mostly carbs I had to charge what I ate around. I am not try to depress you further because I've been there and I'm trying to help. ps you may want to set up an appt with an nutrionist just to see where you're at. btw what was your start current and goal weight? if you have any further question you can email on this site. p.s I have also found two mentour buddies on this site that helps keep us accountable for our actions. I hope this helps

Don't be depressed about this. I have had times when I haven't lost any weight for a while and needed to change my eating habits to start losing again.

You should really try to eat several meals a day starting with breakfast. I used to make scrambled eggs for breakfast or maybe some yogurt. I also make egg salad for breakfast sometimes. I don’t really count calories so much; I just stay away from carbohydrates sugars and try to eat more Protein like fish, eggs and meats. You can also try the low carb Protein Shakes for breakfast.

Don't get discouraged and write down everything you eat for a few days so you can make changes to your diet.

I have been banded since 04/2007 so I have had many ups and down in the last 2 years. Get your head back in the game and you will start losing again :(

I strongly urge you to make an appointment with the nutritionist associated with your surgeon. Based on your description of what you eat, you may need to even boost your intake. I learned a few helpful things to keep myself on track and continue losing. Let us know how you do..don't give up. Having the surgery is just the beginning of learning how to use this tool!! Good Luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
