Problems with granola??

Recommended Posts

Hi all - I have been very lucky and never had a problem with any foods getting stuck all the time or foods that I just can't tolerate. But yesterday and today I ate some home made granola (rolled oats, oat bran, wheat germ and nuts, etc) and both times right after I got terrible stomach aches. It felt like my stomach was inflated and trying to get bigger but couldn't. Or like I have tons of gas trapped in there but that isn't the case - no gas, just that too full feeling and pain. I didn't eat a lot of it at all, so it isn't literally too much food. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Any ideas on what could be causing the problem? Thanks for the help!!

Just one word for you...FIBER! Dr. Oz answered this question on Oprah a couple of weeks ago...and I have been eating Fiber one bars for Breakfast so I can answer it too :(

Your homeade granola packed a lot of Fiber. If you body is not used to all that fiber, it works extra hard to digest it (thats a good thing), and that means a lot of gas or farting...haha..

Dr. Oz said as you continue to eat fiber, you body gets used to eat and there will be less gas, etc.

That would be my guess! Maybe it was gas but couldnt get out...maybe try a gas-x strip after eating that?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
