Does anybody Know the Answer to This?

Recommended Posts

I had a fill 3 weeks ago. After 10 days I started getting badacid reflux. Today I got a slight unfill ( I went from 3.25 cc's to 2.5 cc's). I was wondering if anybody knew how long it takes before the acid and tight throat symptoms go away. Thanks.

If the tight fill was causing it (and that didn't seem tight, to me, nor is .75 cc's slight! LOL Unless you have the older style band that only holds 4ccs in which case that was very tight....but I need to remember we are all different; I'm just wondering if maybe your band didn't cause it, but am not a doc) then as soon as the tightness is relieved the reflux should subside. In other words, it should go away pretty darned quickly. If it doesn't, something else is wrong and you need to call your surgeon back.

I wish I knew! :smile2: I know my husband has GERD and it's partly caused by a hernia. He takes Prevacid and as long as he doesn't eat like a boa constrictor late at night, he's good. Maybe you need a proton pump inhibitor like prevacid or nexium? You may have a small hernia, you may have something else, it may be the band! But whatever it is you were very very smart to not just try to live with it because the acid can do damage. The stomach is built to take it, but not our esophagus. If you're still in pain, call your doc tomorrow and have him check you out! Good luck; odds are it's something minor that can be fixed with a medication for a while so don't fret about it!

I just thought of this...This may sound odd but have you tried a couple of tums? If you had GERD really bad your esophagus MAY just be irritated; tums can help soothe it. (they make a sugar free one, if you want). But if it is still hurting tomorrow (tums or no) call your doc. Ok?

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your input. I have been switching back and forth between Prevacid and Prilosec. They pretty much do the trick, I was just worried. By the way, I see that you are a nurse. When I was working as an intern (social work) at a psychiatric hospital, I observed that the nurses were the ones who really helped get the patients well. They did all the work. Sure the psychiatrists gave direction and so forth, but they only saw the patients a for few minutes. It was the nurses who helped them get well. It made quite an impression on me and I wanted to say that nurses are awesome. Pam

Thank you! I am very very new nurse; I haven't even passed the credentialing boards yet (NCLEX) BUT! I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing! So I am one! :smile2:

I love it and am grateful every day I got the chance at my age to go back to school and get to do something so awesome for the 2nd half of my life!

Do call your doc tomorrow; you probably should stick with one med for a while and let it build up and do it's job...I hope whatever your issue is that it is minor and easily fixed. I'm sure it will be! You caught it very very early before the acid had time to hurt you any!

Thanks again. I will talk to the doctor if there isn't an improvement. Congratulations on getting your BSN. For some unknown reason, most of the girls who lived on my floor in the dorms (way back a long time ago) were all nursing majors. They were always trying to get me to let them practice drawing blood! Never again! Anyway, thanks again and good luck on your new career. Pam

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
