Banded June 4th - Questions

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if it is normal that I haven't had any problems eating or drinking anything since my surgery date. It feels like I could eat anything that I wanted. Only differance is that I don't want to eat everything in sight anymore. It's a weird feeling not to think about food anymore.

I am down 12 lbs since surgery and go for my first fill on July 8th.

That's very normal becaause you don't yet have restriction. It took me until my 5th fill to feel restriction. That's why they call this phase "bandster hell"--because it is sometimes a b it harder to lose weight because you can eat a lot.

COngrats on losing 12 lbs!

I am the same way. I feel like I could eat an entire pizza - and I want to!!! It's sheer willpower that's keeping me away from food at this point. Since I never feel restriction, I'm very worried that I will overeat and cause damage.

I haven't felt anything different other than burping. I keep telling myself that it just means I'm healing easily. I don't know if there is any truth to that or not!

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I called the doctor's office and spoke to the nurse and she said that after 2 weeks the swelling has gone away and you will feel like you can eat more but for me stay focused on eating a low-carb, high Protein diet and its very important to start eating bulk foods now, like boiled eggs, tuna fish, grilled dark meat chicken....etc. something bulky will fill the stomach and make your stomach breakdown the foods, liquids and creamy things will make you want more because they pass thru quicker the bulky foods have to digest first......Don't eat pizza..not yet!

Laurie, I too was banded on June 4th and will be getting my first fill on July 8th. The only differnece is that my band was put in with fill in it - around 3cc's. I've just started eating soft foods and can feel the restriction after about 1 cup. I could eat pretty frequently if I let myself, but I think thats because I'm not allowing enough time after eating and before drinking.

Good Luck to you and remember to try and stick with healthy choices, lots of Protein.

Congrats on 12 pounds. I had surgery June 4th and am only down 5 pounds (was 8 until I started eating again). My doc doesn't do a fill until about 8 weeks out. I am nervous about gaining weight back - I feel no restriction and until I eat what should probably be a normal meal (still less than before) but I am not sure what else to do. I go for my first check up tomorrow at the doc - I am going to ask him for some more guidance.

Went to a support group meeting last night and spoke to several people who said that it is very normal to feel no restrictions until you get your first few fills. But it is very important to stay on track with eating Proteins first, even if you have to eat double of what you ate before. Eat 2 pieces of chicken or fish and drink Protein Shakes. stay on low carbs and avoid sugars. Stay focused on why you got the lap-band. scale for me hasn't moved in 5 days. GOOD LUCK! and keep me posted. WE CAN DO THIS!

I was banded June 4th too. Thanks for this posting 3LAURIE8! Isn't it kind of funny how easy it is to feel as if you're the only one experiencing something?! I've also noticed that the amount of food I can eat has been slowly creeping up and up. I've still been eating good food (no Pasta or icecream or cereal--my faves!) just more of it. I'm glad that my stomach's swelling has gone down and that now I'm feeling pretty normal, but with "normal" comes Hunger. I have nothing in my band, but am getting my first fill next Wednesday. I hope that helps. Like lbndoc said, "it's by sheer willpower" that I'm eating small amounts--but only because I'm back to measuring food. I feel like I'm hanging on by my fingernails. At least now, though, there is an end in sight. Nice to hear from other early June bandsters. :(

I was banded on June 11th and I lost 18 pounds in the first 8 days. Once I began to eat mushies and regular food I gained 4 pounds and have slowly lost 2 of those pounds over the past week. I feel stuck! I'm glad I lost weight but now I'm frustrated and just trying to be patient. I have my first fill on July 8th. I only take in 700-1000 calories a day and I have been doing lap swimming and cardio at the gym everyday to burn 400-800 calories a day in my workouts. I have been focusing on Proteins drinking Protein shakes and eating low carb high Protein mini meals four times a day with no Snacks inbetween. I can't wait to talk to my doctor because it seems like I should be making more progress.

Thanks for sharing your experiences everybody. It is good to hear how you are all doing since I have only decided to tell my husband and one close friend about my lap band. :)

I am feeling stuck also since I started with foods. I can't wait to see my doctor on the 8th. It almost feels like I don't have a lap-band anymore. I have lots of questions for the doctor. No bad hunger pains. But i find myself wanted to eat things like potato chips and crackers.

I am in need of a fill........

Good Luck to you and keep us posted!

Thanks,

Laurie

Laurie,

I could have written your post! We went away this past weekend and I felt so out of control. I know that my choices where better than pre-band and my portions where smaller, but I know that I'm not even close to what my portions should be. I'll be seeing my surgeon on Wed for my first fill and I can't wait too! It is nice to hear that others are dealing with the same struggles I'm having. Good Luck!

Pam

Pam, Laurie and all you other June 4th bandsters. I joined the band the same day... or is it that it joind me?

Anyway lost weight from decreased appetite but didn't feel any restriction either. Then last Tuesday I went to the surgeon for my post-op check and she surprised me by offering to give me a fill. (The practice normally makes people wait five weeks.) I now have 4 cc's and feel restriction. I know 4cc's sounds like a lot but I think the rules are different for the new Realize C that I have.

Look forward to hearing from you guys when you get your fills!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
