Tightness in throat after fill?

Recommended Posts

So I just had my first fill about 3-4 hours ago and was told I had 4cc/ml's put in during surgery which I was suprised at because my surgeon said he usually doesn't fill them up. Anyway he put in another 4cc/ml, had some Water went down absolutely fine. Then I got home about 1pm and my throat right now just feels really tight, like I've got something stuck there. Is that an indication that I'm going to be super tight in the morning and not be able to swallow anything? I've been taking sips of water and juice since I got home but it's still there. What should I do? :wink2:

Sarah I don't know what time it is where you are (I can barely keep track of my OWN time zone)

BUT....

I think you need to call and tell your doc. You probably need a wee bit removed. Take care of yourself, chickie! :wink2:

Lol, it's currently 3.36pm wednesday here in aus. I know I should ring but what if I'm just over reacting and he thinks I sound like an idiot? I have no way of getting there until 6.30pm tonight and even then the guy that did my fill won't be there and at my hospital he's the only one qualified to do it. I just had a cup of tea and it's eased a bit but I dunno. If it gets any worse I might have to call up =(

I'd call. I don't remember (if you shared it!) your band size but 8 cc's is a LOT. Especially as close to surgery as you are. Give them a buzz and see what they think...you shouldn't feel things in your throat and you seem pretty even-keeled. I mean, you MAY be a drama Queen but you don't seem that way in your posts; you seem to really think things through and be pretty calm and practical, so if you think you may be too tight, you probably are.

BUT it probably wouldn't hurt you to see how you do overnight, either. You know best! :wink2:

That's because I don't know my band size, I asked the nurse today and he said the surgeon didn't record it which is so annoying. 8cc in it 5 weeks out is definitely annoying, when he said that 4cc was already in and that he was putting another 4 in I kinda felt the colour drain from my face, I dunno. I tend to get paranoid alot so maybe that's what it is this time. I'll wait it out but if it's still there tonight I'm going to ring.

Ok good luck. I know I have the 14 cc band and I KNOW we're all different but right now if I had 8 cc's I'd be dead! LOL

I'd say its quite common to feel that - like theres' something lodged in there? A bit like when you get a popcorn kernel stuck in the back of your throat, makes you want to keep swallowing?

I had that for about a week after surgery and once or twice I've had it after a fill but its always resolved within a few days and not caused any problems.

I've noticed that sensation a couple of times as well. I normally put it down to maybe being a little bit dehydrated although it might be due to something else. i can normally still drink with no problems but it does feel as though something is there.

Let us know what the outcome is.

Thank you all for responding. I was just in the chat and someone mentioned something about being careful with the tightness and you know it never even clicked in my head that it can take up to 2 weeks for someone to feel the fill even though I knew that. Sooo now I'm thinking that what I got was definitely too much but I might not even know for a little while. As for the throat thing - Yeah I ended up getting sick lol but I think it also has something to do with the band as well because when I first wake up I'm soooooo thirsty and my throat is sore for ages after and then it goes away around 2pm so I dunno. I'm definitely eating slower than ever and will have to watch out with this fill. If theres any sign that I'm even close to not being able to swallow I'm going straight back up to the hospital, no f*cking around this time even if it ends up being something stupid =S

Hi Sarah. I am going through the same thng you are with the tightness in the throat. And that burning you are feeling in your throat may be stomach acid. I have been taking lots of Prilosec, a stomach acid reducer, and that has helped me A LOT. But I am thinking that I am going to need an unfill, which I dread. Try a stomach acid reducer for a few days and see if tha helps. Otherise I'd call the doctor. Good luck. Pam

Hey Pam, I never actually got any burning so I dunno what that was about? Lol. As for everything else it's definitely eleviated. And I ended up getting sick so I think that's what the tightness in the throat was. I've only had to take one reflux tablet since being banded (not that I had it heaps before just got it every now and then) and it's been great. I haven't exactly been "faithful" if you will to the band these past 5 weeks but I've realised I can't do that anymore. Last night had fish and chips for dinner - okay the chips part wasn't good but I asked my mum what kind of salad stuff we had and all we had was Tomato sooo couldn't really do that lol. I baked the fish, had some lemon and a little tartare which tasted like really sweet mayo so I think I might throw it out lol.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
