Anyone else out there OK with losing slowly with an unfilled or small filled band?

Recommended Posts

I completely agree with you. I am 18 days post op and have lost nearly 12 pounds. I could not do that before, no matter what diet I was on. I too will be happy with 1 or 2 fills. I did not get the band to become model thin. I got the band so that I could control my weight, get off of the HBP meds and decrease my chances of diabetes. I am geneticlly predisposed for those diseases. I took a proactive stance against my ever increasing weight. Someone in an earlier post stated how some banders vomit, pb and slime their way through the weight loss. That is not how I want to spend my journey. I am able to stop eating when my body tells me and I am making healthier choices. I'm cooking all of my meals instead of eating out 5 days a week. I am rediscovering the taste of foods that are not fried and am enjoying my meals. I eat slower and savour eat bite all the while, I am losing weight. Thanks for this thread.

I noticed your post? I have lost 19 pounds from the insurance weigh in date - but only 4 pounds post surgery which was 9 days ago. I weigh 224 and am wondering if I am doing something wrong or just a slow loser which I prefer. Can you tell me how much the doctors actually EXPECT you to lose in the 2 weeks post-op liquid diet? I have already started eating fish, strained Soups, etc and this is probably why - but I got to say- I am exhausted otherwise. My family has a very busy schedule and without with fuel - I can't keep up!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
