I was banded 7 months ago and have lost 26kgs. I have had two fills so far. When i eat i have to chew very very well or it hurts(this i understand). However, as soon as food hits my pouch i feel it going straight through so i figure that its not staying in the pouch the way it should . I am not losing as well as i feel i should be, amd as a result of the food going straight through i can eat way more than i think i should be able to eat. Now i am careful about portion size so i am not setting myself up to fail but i dont know if the food should just go through the way mine does or if it should be staying in the puoch much longer. I can also gult down liquids with no problem. should the food sit in the pouch for a fair while and start the digestion process in the pouch. Can you floks answer these questions for me please.

It sounds like you are doing great, but you probably need a fill.

Personally for me how long I stay full is based very much on WHAT I choose to eat. Things that are Protein dense and have to be well chewed, like steak, chicken breast etc, keep me full for hours. Other things, like baked fish or salad, don't have the same punch.

Most of us can and should be able to drink easily...I CAN gulp but don't want to overload things and stretch my pouch so I don't.

If you are really getting truly hungry too soon after meals then you need more fill.

I agree, changing what you eat can help. Personally, I'm a carb eater, NOTHING makes my band work well like wholegrain breads and cereals. A sandwich for lunch combining, say, bread, tuna and salad vegetables can easily last me till dinner (even though I cant eat the entire thing) whereas a salad, and I'll be looking for chocolate within an hour.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
