Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor surgery June 23rd!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi, Love the idea of having a mentor to help me along and have questions answered. I am excited, a little nervous, wondering how much weight I will loose, if its very painful, just things like that. Doctor appt tomorrow to meet the surgeon. I am on the preop diet now, it consists of skim milk--very hard to stick to, but I sure am trying. Thanks! Patsy

p.s. How do you transfer the weight tape from ticker tape.com? I have tried and just cannot get it to come here. Thanks again

Hi Patsy. I was banded 4 days ago and am happy to answer any questions. I am going pretty good so far. I am in Australia - 33 years old with 3 kids. I am in surprisingly little pain. In fact I have decided to go back to work earlier than planned (tomorrow).

Ticker: Copy the ticker BB Code and paste into your profile signature (in the big white box at top, not the internet adress boxes underneath)

Hi Patsy!! I can be your metor and answer any questions you have, if you would like :) I was banded on June 23rd of last year!! So we will be banded one year apart. :)

For the ticker...if you click on someone elses ticker that will take you to the website. Then once you make your ticker, you have to copy the info for a forum. Then paste it into your the "edit your signature" place.

My recovery was relatively easy. I didn't even take all the pain meds. Within 4 days I really felt back to myself. The diet in the beginning (and pre-op) is hard to follow mentally. My best advice to you is togo in for a fill every 4 weeks until you reach your sweet spot. I didn't feel restriction until my 5th fill and reached my sweet spot at my 6th fill.

Good luck...you wil do great!!

Hi Amy,

Can I ask you to be my mentor as well. As you are a year ahead, it would be great to have someone to ask questions to. We are the same age (give or take a few months). My recovery is the same as your. I am on day 4 and am now feeling more or less back to normal.

I do have an initial question. Everybody talks about the sweet spot with the fills. How do you know that you have reached this point. Also, how do you know if you have filled too much. I am having my first fill in 3 weeks.

Fiona

Hi Amy,

I also had Dr. Geo. Fielding do my surgery on 4/20. I went for my 1st fill of 4cc's on 6/3 and my next one is 7/1. I am feeling a little more restricted each time. I am down 23 1/2 lbs. I feel great. Sometimes Idont even feel like eating. My next question is do you exercise. I have bad knees althought I am starting to feel the difference. Would appreciate anything you can tell me.

Hi Patsy,

I had my band done on 4/20. I feel really great. I am down 23 1/2 lbs. My weight is going down slowly but that's the way to do it. You will be fine and also feel great. I had no problem with the liquid part I drank 5 slimfast a day and was quite full and never hungry. Before you know it the surgery will be all over and you will start seeing the process. Any time you want to write or email me please do. You will come through this just fine.

Hi Fiona---yes I will answer any questions you have!! The sweet spot is just something you know when you get there...for me I get full after eating a very small amount---maybe 1/2 cup. I cannot overeat anymore---it is even hard for me to overeat icecream!! Not that I eat a lot of tha tthese days...but as an occasional treat. IN the first few months of my surgery I could eat anything, sandwiches, Cookies, etc. I really had to diet a lot and really watch my calories. Now, I still watch what I eat, but I don't worry too much if I eat something a little unhealthy because I can only eat a little. With each fill I was a little more restricted--but it was n't until the 5th fill that I really felt restriction and then the 6th fill was my sweet spot.

If you are filled too much you may not be able to keep any foods or liquids down. You may throw up a lot, etc. I do throw up sometimes, but I just have to be very consious of my eating.

Hi Gettinginshape! Congrats on the weight loss thus far. I love Dr. Fielding. I go to the dinners he puts on every couple of months--so much fun!! I do exercise. I go to the gym 4-5 days per week for 1 1/2 hours each day. I do about 40 mins cardi o and then strength training. I still don't love it but I do it anyway. I started exercising about 6 months after banding. I just wasn't motivated before then.

Good luck to everyone!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
