trouble finding port

Recommended Posts

I went for my 1st fill today and the doctor could not locate my port. Has this happened to anyone else? I m scheduled to go for x-ray and flourescope fill next week . What should I expect?

I had problems with them finding my port for the first two fills that I had. They said that the doc had put my port up higher than normal and it was slightly tilted. They were able to find it under the fluro because they could see where to stick the needle. Also, after I lost a few pounds more, the nurse practitioner said my port shifted a little and became easier to get to. I now am able to have fills in the office w/o doing them all under x-ray. Flouro is just the x-ray machine that they use when doing the fill. You can do the fill either laying down or standing up and they take pictures to see how the saline runs through the tubing of your band to make sure that everything is ok. My doc's office do the first fill under fluro and then all others are done in the office without x-ray unless you have problems. Now, I have to have under fluro only once per year to ensure everything is going ok.

I had the same thing happen to me twice! for my first fill the physicians assistant couldn't find the port and stuck me about 4 times. I was not happy and I don't handle pain well. They said I must have been to inflamed from the operation still. I was banded in mid april. Came back two weeks later same situation.

Today went back and they sent me for an x-ray and found out that my port was slightly off center. so the moved it as best as they could then numbed me with something (cant remember the name. Best thing ever created! they were able to give me my first fill 6 weeks after my operation. I would certainly recommend getting the numbing after having your x-ray. After your fill at least for me, I am on a liquid diet today. mushys tomorrow and solids again by Sunday.

I can relate to being scared about it, but once they numb you and the needle is small. You will not feel a thing. I know I am a big chicken

Hope that helps =)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
