Anybody still around? I'm still running, but the cold weather has really slowed things down. I did buy a 3 month membership to a gym that has a small running track. As a benefit I swim after. I have joined a group run that will run on weekends starting 1/23. Hope everyone has a better 2010 than 2009. For me that should be easy.

Bill I'm still here. I run in the garage on the treadmill, so yeah I'm still here. I haven't progressed to outside world yet, suppose to do that this spring. I'm glad to hear that your 2010 should be easy...I still haven't meet my goals, and that's what I'm going to continue to work on, that and school work.

Welcome to 2010! I don't remember if I said it, but I've committed to running a marathon this year. Probably the USAF marathon in September in Dayton, Ohio. Unfortunately I've had some bad luck since I signed up for the Capital city 1/2 Marathon. I bruised the sciatic nerve in my back and have been knocked out of running for 2 weeks! I hope to start up again in the next few days, but a foot of white death is bearing down on us in Columbus today, so we will see. Oh, I put on 7 pounds during my off time, time to get back on the diet again. I know if will come off and I will be back at my goal weight when I can start running again.

I'm back, been a rough winter/spring - In January, I hurt my back (Sciatic) 5 months later, and it still hasn't healed. I was unable to run for a couple of months, tried to start again twice and hurt it again. I'm back to running for the 3rd time and being more careful this time. The bad news is I put on 15 pounds and am 15 pounds above my goal weight and where I was in my peak running last years.

in that time period, my daughter got married. Here is a little picture from that.

Running season has started again, and while I feel like I am starting all over again and I'm nowhere near my best times, at least I'm ahead of where I was last year. But I'm finding getting this 15 pounds off the second time is even harder. But I'm confident it will come off as soon as my back allows me to run 30 miles a week again.

Bill,

The wedding picture is wonderful. Best of luck as you get back into the swing of things and lose the 15 again.

I am starting high at 412 lbs. I am at 379 lbs. and one month post-op. I have always wanted to run and have set a small goal of a 5k in January 2010 around a weight of 340 lbs. I will be doing the 5k during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.

I have to maintain a 16 minute mile... and I think I am currently in the 20 minute area. I am excited to participate in my first running event.

Welcome Teb,

Maybe I'll see you at Disney. I would have done the marathon in Disney this past January, but I was saving every penny for the April Wedding. In hindsite, I'm glad I wasn't able, it was like 29 degrees and freezing rain that day this year.

Just wanted to wave hello to the fellow runners!

I have run off and on over many years. Losing weight with Lapband made it easier to actually get into it hardcore. I think I went through the C25K program like 3 times. LOL Finally, in August of last year, something STUCK and I've been running ever since (did take a month off in Nov/Dec for a foot problem). Ran my very first road race on May 8th - a half-marathon. Now I'm building up my mileage even more to see if I could survive a full marathon in October. I'm super excited. If all goes well, I'm then considering another marathon in December in Las Vegas. I have heard that you are ready for your next marathon when you forget about the one you just did - but the moment I finished my half, I was asking myself when my next race was going to be! I love this stuff.

The high that comes from running is incomparable to anything else I've ever experienced.

Good to "meet" you, Bill! Look forward to hearing your experiences with running.

Hiya fellow runners.. Just read all the posts.

I started running in June, was going to do c25k but i felt it was too easy for me at the beginning, always was a big girl but worked out, and i have been doing running intervals for years.. So I started by running 1.5miles then walked for 1.5 and little by little I am now up to 4 miles with no walking.. Once in a while i have to stop maybe once out of 10 runs or something..

I am doing my first 5k this coming weekend.. I signed up for a 10k too at the end of Sept but sure i am ready for that much but they said i could change to 5k as late as the day before. I have always wanted to run a 1/2 marathon, its on my bucket list (i am only 27 heheh) but I would really have to do one next year around this time, but lot of running programs for half marathons say you should be a runner for more then a year before starting the program.

I say nonsense. I started running in March of 09, by September I had run several 5 and 10ks. I spent 3 weeks getting ready for my first half and it was great fun, loved every minute of it.

What made you trip, another racer, a pot hole? Or looking at something interesting?

In a recent 10k I recognized someone I hadn't seen in 10 years, started talking and ran right into the back of someone :):)

In a recent 10k I recognized someone I hadn't seen in 10 years, started talking and ran right into the back of someone :bored::smile:

It was part road part cross country race and at the end was down hill and rocky.. I think i just tripped over a rock, Several people offered to help me us but we were so close to the end i didnt want to slow them down hehe..

Ran another 5k this past weekend and ran it in 33 mins. Cutting 4 mins off my time.. Felt great! It was in pittsburgh and the race finished in Heinz field! it was awesome

Preping for my 10k at the end of the month, Ran my first 10k tuesday, went good but was very sore after. I dont have alot of high hopes other than just finishing this 10k..

Do they have meds for a running addiction? heheh

Weight loss is one of the biggest reasons why people start running. As one of the most vigorous exercises out there, running is an extremely efficient way to burn calories and drop pounds. Running burns about 100 calories per mile for a 150-pound person. Because running also builds muscle mass, your resting metabolism will increase, which means that you'll burn more calories at rest. If you combine running with a healthy diet, you'll definitely notice a difference in the way you look and feel.

I calculated I burn 1900 calories in a 1/2 marathon. Great way to burn it off.

Went to see the Star Wars movie yesterday. (Glad I waited as no one else was in the cinema for the midday session - yes!) Hadn’t been to the cinema for a few months and OMG I suffered the most terrible butt pain.  So uncomfortable. Started after 30 mins. Was in the premium cinema so grabbed a cushion to sit on but it didn’t help. Ended up sitting sideways in the chair, stretched out on an ottoman. Soooo super glad no one else was there. Sometimes I do miss my old butt fat cushioning... but not really.
