Cobra insurance coverage and the lap band

Recommended Posts

Hello all

Well yesterday was the last of my 6 mo weight management Dr visits and the excitement builds. The paper work for approval will be submitted I am going to guess this next week as soon as the Lap Band doctor gets all the paper work from the other doc.

So here I am all excited and when I get back to work I am told that they are terminating my position! WTH now what am I going to do, well it would seem I can do Cobra and it is not so crazy to pay for since the new act of law has been inforced.

What I want to know is this has anyone ever had this happen and doing Cobra will this effect my coverage and OH MY GOD please tell me I am not going to have to go through all the hoops again to get re-qualified. This has already been a 9 mo process and I am just about there.

Does anyone have insite here? PLease help as there has to be a light at the end of this horid day I had yesterday after losing my job.

Thanks

I am so sorry to hear about your job loss, that's awful. We are in the middle of layoffs and I asked the same question of my benefits department. Their reply was that they don't administer Cobra so they couldn't speak specifically about their process, but that your coverage was to remain identical to your current coverage because the plan itself doesn't change. Cobra just allows you to continue to take part in an employer group plan, versus having to go out shopping for an individual health insurance plan. Hope that helps!

I'm the VP of HR at my company and benefits is one of my specialty areas. COBRA coverage is the SAME exact coverage you currently have. There are no changes, your plan continues just as if you're still employed as long as you continue to make your premium payments. Be very diligent in making your payments, you don't want a denial due to a technicality.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
