I had lapband surgery on 1/28/2009 with Dr. Landers. He is a wonderful surgeon. I am so glad I got him instead of Dr. Bock. I am not too fond of Dr. Bock based on what I heard about him.

Dr. Landers comes from a family with history of morbid obesity and he was 50 lbs overweight himself too so I think that's where he got his love for weight loss surgery and wants to help people.

When I first met him, I think he was inexperienced having a deaf patient (yep, I'm deaf), because when he started to look at my stomach, he asked me if I wanted the interpreter to leave the room, I wanted to laugh but I didn't. I thought it was sweet that he wanted to respect me.

He took really good care of me during my surgery. I woke up to his smiling face in the recovery room. I did not feel pain until I scooted over to the hospital bed from the wheeling table then it hurt. The only time I was in pain was when getting in and out of bed, bending down to pee, getting in and out of car. But no pain when walking, and I walked normally and the nurse had to tell me to slow down. I did not feel sick or anything at all, in fact I never napped at all that day/night in the hospital. I stayed overnight. I woke up in recovery room at approximately 11:50 am and to my room at almost 1230 or so. I did not have any naps until 1145 pm, the pain killers did not knock me out till the nurse gave me a much stronger one at 11:45 pm which really knocked me out. I drove the 2nd night after my surgery because I was bored to tears and wanted a new book from Borders on a Friday night! LOL

I have seen him 3 times since and will see him again on July 22nd. I think I am in need of fill but I am travelling next week so that will be an issue and he did not have any appts. available this week except with PA and I refuse to see Bock or PA. I do not allow any PA (physician assistant) to touch me except in orthopedics based on my bad experience in the Urgent Care back in 2006 related to my back problems and he was very uncaring and pratically threw me out and thew me a bottle of pain killers.

That's all I can say about Dr. Landers. He is a wonderful surgeon and I am glad he joined Group Health as I, too, am an employee for Group Health!

Group Health rocks!

Hello,

I also work for Group Health. Dr. Bock did my surgery and I have to say I'm not sure what you heard about him but he is AWESOME the most concerned Dr. I have ever had. He has the best bedside manner and does not make you feel like a fat unworthy person. Any one would be lucky to have him for their surgeon.

My sister-in-law had Dr. Bock perform her surgery and he is indeed a great surgeon with exceptional courtesy for each patient. He made sure he communicated my sister's progress during the surgery with I thought was sweet as my mother-in-law was in a panic.

Dr. Landers is a GREAT person and is quite skilled at his profession. I always have a blast when I visit him for a fill. He's funny and gives really good advice when needed. Some may not like his stoic, dry sense of humor, but to me it really comforting, lol. He's a parent and understands how busy life can be and doesn't look down on you if you sometimes fall off the wagon. I like that he listens to me and encourages me to try new exercises and foods. He's also easily available off appointment time if need be. It's truly been a pleasure having him be a key player in this journey of mine.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
