whats happened to me

Recommended Posts

I have been banded a year last July and was 20st when I had the op, now I am 20st, so have not lost anything, apart from the post op Fluid regime. When I had my consultation, I told the Dr I had an eating disorder and especially with chocolate. He told me that I would feel sated quickly and there fore would eat less, however, I can eat all the chocolate I want, however have restrictions, on the foods I am supposed to eat, like chicken, etc. So does the band fail many people? do people end up having it removed? What does one do in a case like mine and in actual fact with another person I know, who has all so the same problems. :cry

Saffy: I am strongly suggesting you go to a counselor or do an Overeater's anonymous meeting. IT might help. IT would be a shame to have this great tool and then not use it. I have recently hit a wall and had to change some things about my eating habits as well. It sucks to recognize things about ourselves and then to know you HAVE to change them if you want to lose the weight. It is not an easy road we have to travel.

I second Penni's opinion/suggestion. Also, what does your doctor tell you? He or she might like to get a nutritionist to analyze your eating patterns. It is possible, I hear, to eat around the band...maybe you are filled too tight to eat the right foods, and now have an excuse to go with the chocolate and other things that are "easy."

See someone about your problems with food, and then start over to use the band...that's one thing: you still have the tool.

I have fallen off the wagon and it's funny I read this becuase I just emailed my nutritionist to see if I could set up a meeting with her. I am now going to meet with once a month because I think this will keep me on track and less chance of falling off. Good Luck....Choclate is a bad thing for anyone maybe like Penni said going to a support group or nutritionist is what you need.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
