When will I feel normal again??????

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 5/22/09 with a hernia repair. I feel like my insided are heavy. When I sit up or try to walk I get dizzy and nauseated and my chest it feels like i can't breath. I just feel horrible all the time. I try drink something and my stomach feels so full. My fiend had her band put in 2 years ago & she had no pain & she was back at work the next day.

Will this ever pass?

Everybody is different. AND, you had a hiatal hernia repaired but did your friend? That can make a big difference in recovery, or so I've heard. Luckily, I didn't have that problem. I, like your friend, recovered very quickly. You just have to give yourself the time it takes and it sounds like you just need a little more time.

I had my surgery on 5/19 and also had a hernia repaired. I think I over did things over the weekend and today, my stomach feels like I've been punched, again......It's almost tender to the touch.

I'm lucky, that I can work from home but I'm going to take it easy the next few days. Plenty of breaks to walk around and if I can sneak in a nap, I will.

Your body is still healing, so if you can, try to take it easy.

I, too had the hernia repair. I felt horrible for several days after surgery. I went to the ER the day after surgery thinking I was dying. HA! It was the gas they used, that's all. In addition to the regular gas they use during surgery, I was given gas by the anaesthesiologist after they tried 8 times and were unsuccessful getting an IV started. It's a common problem I have. Anyway, I got some pain meds and kept myself knocked out for 2 days but after that I was home free. I walked a lot to get the gas out but it wasn't fun. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi there,

I had my surgery on April 23rd 2009 and had the exact same symptoms you describe. I also had a medium hiatal hernia repair. I was not told that it takes longer to heal if you have a hernia, but I do know that I felt the exact way you do last week. I fainted 4 times and my blood pressure was down to 80/60. A pharmacist told my husband that I was probably dehydrated and I should drink more. I was also given a chewable Multivitamin to help give me a boost. This seemed to help a lot. Good luck.

For the first couple weeks after banding I felt like everything from my stomach was now in my chest. I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest and it made it hard to breath. That feeling just disappeared one morning somewhere around 2 weeks. I think it's the gas that makes you feel that way and it does take time to get rid of the gas and remember, the surgeon moved things around in there while doing your band and this will leave you sore also. I was really regreting the band at first but please know it does get better. Soon you wont even know it's there and you will be so glad you did it.

Banded 4/17/09

Hi. I had surgery 1 year ago & had a hiatel hernia repair. I'm usually a very tough cookie but was in a lot of pain following lapband surgery. First 5 days was the worst. I took the pain medicine as often as possible. 2 weeks I was feeling much better but still had some pain & took pain meds to sleep. Finally at 3 weeks out I was back to normal. Hope this helps. Good luck to you!

Don't get discouraged. The recovery time is different for everyone. I was the first to have my surgery and the last patient to leave. I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. It will get better. Hang in there.

It took me 10 days or so to really feel like my insides were okay. Same hernia and pain you mentioned. I can say please do follow the liquid diet for a full week. Adding any type of non-liquid food the first 1-2 weeks only makes the pressure worse......

I feel for you. I felt like I was trying to sit up or lay down with a large filled balloon for a upper belly. I had my band on May 15 and started feeling fairly normal about 10 days later. I was really sick with diarrhea this past Sat. I think I was still having problems with the Protein Shake. What helped me more than anything was the gasX strips. I am off of the pain meds for several days now. Good luck to you and you may want to try the gasX if you have not already.:bored:I got to start mushies officially Monday Ya hoo.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
